Baby Tort - sharp nails

I have a baby Hermann (about 6mos old). His nails are quite sharp. When should they be trimmed for first time? I'm assuming it's like any other animal, have to be careful not to cut back too much.

I think if you keep some flat rocks or tiles in the enclosure, you won't need to do much trimming.

Most tortoises don't need nail trimming. I use flat pieces of slate or sand stone for basking spots and I never have to trim any nails.
