Recently my baby leopard tortoise has not opened his eyes for a week,
He always sleep all days, even pick him up his eyes still always close.
And I've never seen him eating for a week too.
I'm very worried, someone here please tell me how to recover him.

Hi Ekkapat:

Your baby leopard tortoise is very ill.

Put him into a small bowl with warm water that come up to the middle of his sides and let him soak there for about 15 or 20 minutes. His eyes should open after that.

When a baby tortoise stops eating, their eyes stick shut and they stay hidden all the time.

I put my babies into a bowl of warm water every morning when I turn on their lights. Then I get them out after about 15 minutes and put them in front of their food. I get out of sight, but I watch them to be sure all of them are eating.

Please tell us what the temperature is in his habitat? and what kind of light you are using?

Thank you for your advise,
Is that resulted from heating light?
I use philips's 100W lamp. Temperature is around 90F for hot zone and around 80 for cool zone.
Please see attached photo for light I use.

Do you also have a UV light for him in an indoor setup?

I know you had problems with your idian stars awhile ago, what are your temps like? are you able to get your tortoises out in the sun? I don't mean to be rude or anything, but it seems like there is a husbandry issue here.

Hi Ekkapat,

How is your Leo now? Just saw this thread.

Just to clarify - you told me you bought an UV-lamp, so I am assuming you're using it?
I'd suggest you'd see a vet just to be sure about your leo (if he hasn't improved yet). Here in the forum they can surely give you some first-aid tips, but if he doesn't improve I'd be sure to check with a vet.

Btw, I'd like to add that I do think his Star Torts were sick when he bought them. I know the shop where he bought them, and the guy puts all the tort species he has in a cage for sale (like 5 different species). I should snap a picture next time I go there.

Anyway, I hope Leo is better already! Would like to hear an update on him/her.

Ah. Sorry to hear that. Does the vet know what's wrong exactly?
