I woke up this morning to feed my box turtles. I looked down and saw something moving; a hatchling. i woke up my boxies in march, put them outside in April. I don't think it's possible for a female to lay eggs and have them hatch in such a short time frame. I'm thinking this was one that hatched back in September or October and spent the winter under ground. It had some worms in its left eye. I cleaned it up and placed it in the incubator on some wet paper towels for the night. Yolk sac is present, but all dried up.

I would post some great pictures but I can't post pictures from my iPhone. For some reason it doesn't allow me to do so.

It really surprises me that a hatchling can hibernate.

Little guy doing well. His eye healed over. He is for sure blind on the left side, but eating. I think he might make a full recovery.

So cute! Its amazing at times how nature takes care of itself when we aren't watching. On eye I am sure it will end up just fine. Our oldest dog went blind young due to a genetic condition we were not aware of at the time of purchase. He gets along just fine. Does everything he always did other then chase a ball or stick. However, he has found all new ways to play. Sure this little guy will find his own way. ;)

Missing an eye hasn't even effected this little guy. He takes down crickets with the best of em. As long as they are coming towards him from the right....
