I just bought these three hibiscus at Lowes. Before I plant them are they safe for my Indian Star Tortoise to eat in the future? I attached the tags on the plants for you to see. Thank you ?
I don’t see any reason why not. Hibiscus, Rose of Sharon, Mallow, all of these plants are edible & devoured. Not sure how/where you are planting, these particular plants might have pesticides, fertilizers applied, so, don’t feed any of these leaves or flowers. Give them all a thorough soaking & time.
I just brought my hibiscus plant in the house (it was in a pot in my thyme garden). It's labeled an annual, so I didn't know what to expect. I kept it in quarantine from my other plants; bugs hate me and I hate them back! I figured I'd just try to keep it alive til Spring. To my surprise, it's sprouting all kinds of new growth now that it's inside (leaves, buds, and flowers). I'm still keeping it apart from my other plants, although it's not showing signs of any bugs (knock wood!) My little guy can't eat a whole flower at once, so I snip off one petal at a time, down near the base.I was going to plant them in my yard and cut them back before winter. These three are a perineal variety so they will grow again in spring. I though by then the fertilizer in that soil would have dispersed so I could feed my tortoise the hibiscus flowers
They are grown with systemic pesticides. These last in the plant's tissues for up to a year. After a year, it will probable be okay to feed new growth and flowers.I just bought these three hibiscus at Lowes. Before I plant them are they safe for my Indian Star Tortoise to eat in the future?
