Anyone know this weed?

This weed had started growing in my tortoise pen, and my tortoises had devoured it until it was gone. I weeded any remaining plants out because of being unsure of the toxicity. I've had a hard time identifying, but it has some key features. Anyone know if it is edible and nutritious? I'm pretty sure the tortoises urates were pink after eating this. Thanks ?

I don't know that one. Is there a local nursery you could take a sample to? The local plant nerd should know what it is.

There are! Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. I might just go check it out.

I'm not sure on this one. It looks vaguely like something in the spurge / wild poinsettia genus (Euphorbia sp.), which contains many toxic plants - so I would treat with caution.

You are the best! I searched up euphorbia fl to make sure and then I found a picture of it which lead me to finding out it is euphorbia graminea! Aka grassleaf spurge! Do you know if that one is toxic? Or should I just be careful and not feed?

Yeah that looks like a match or at least very close. Several plant sites list it as toxic to mammals. No idea for tortoises but I would treat it as toxic if it were me.

I believe it is some type of persicaria. Unfortunately I live in CT and do not know your local weeds. Do you have a flower that I could see?

Unfortunately it only has the small white flowers in the first pic. But i think we figured out it's grassleaf spurge ?

Use Seek app. it will help you at least with a good start but often it will find exactly what plant you are looking at.

I feed all kinds of foods to my Russian that aren’t on the “squeaky clean” list but I don’t feed her euphorbias.

She’s never been interested in any of the local ones that have popped up in the yard but there is a tropical one that blew into my state whose sap is used to burn mild cancers off human skin. NOPE! She may have tough skin and an amazing digestive system but she’s still some soft spots.
