These are photos of my three year old aldabra’s eyes. When I gently pet near his eyes, it seems like the size of his nictitating membrane is preventing his eyes from being able to close all the way. I noticed this issue when he was around a year old and have tried giving him terramycin ointment which hasn’t had any effect. I looked back at older photos of him and he’s had big eyelids in even the earliest ones when I just got him. He’s active, eating, pooping all normally and growing like a weed!
Are these eyelids just an unusual quality of this animal or A sign of something bad? I have a 2 year old tortoise in the same care conditions who does not have this problem.
Some background info:
Location: Georgia, USA
Enclosure: outdoors on a grassy pen for spring and summer, indoors on coconut coir & orchid bark
Diet: grass, weeds, mazuri and a random mix of greens and cactus pads every 2 days
