He updates the saga of West Camp almost daily on his FB group, Tortoise Talk. BTW he now has 10,000 members on there! I think it was started in 2018 or 2019.

Back to West Camp...construction is well underway. The perimeter fence I think is done, and most of the buildings and the house are in varying stages of work.

He has had, and is still having, huge ongoing problems with the General Contractor, sub contractors, and workers. Greg has to be there all the time to spot errors in following the blueprints, building, safety issues, and especially shoddy workmanship. The entire project is a giant headache. Every day is a new crisis...poor Greg is exhausted, angry, and disgusted.

The inspector came and decided that Greg needed something else for local compliance and it cost another pile of money. I think Greg said the project is more than $100,000 over, with more to come.

My blood pressure goes up just looking at the pics Greg posts of shoddy workmanship and mistakes that have been made. It's really beyond imagination.

But when it's done, it's going to be a state of the art facility, and absolutely gorgeous for torts and people.

~ One thing i will share and emphasize on this forum is how important it is to make sure that all habitats where any tortoises are kept are as clean and free of anything toxic and dangerous. This has been incredibly difficult for me to do, many factors, however mainly is that i could get no one to comply with simply things like putting all extra concrete and mortar in barrels or on tarps. They simply refused and my GC would not hold them accountable other than simply telling them to do it, absolutely no enforcement other than me constantly arguing with them daily. I actually kicked off one pump guy for flagrantly refusing to put his excess concrete by the dumpster, instead he simply dumped it in my tortoise field and laughed. It is all i could do not to have him arrested. He was fired! One of my biggest concerns is all the nails, screws, metal ties, cut rebars, etc. that the workers (mostly ET concrete) simply discard on the ground and make no effort otherwise. I have spent countless hours, literally on my hands and knees picking this stuff up. It became overwhelming and totally out of control. I pray none of my breeders digest anything toxic or dangerous that causes injury or death. We all know that internal perforation and compaction is prone to tortoises. I will say that i have literally hundreds of pictures and evidence of none compliance and will make sure all is properly documented once i get a certificate of occupancy. There have been many issues, however the optimal concern for us is the health and safety of our breeding group of irreplaceable priceless giant tortoises. I literally have blisters and callused hands from trying to be as proactive and pickling everything i could up. They completely buried everything recently in the fields, totally trapping all the garbage, concrete, mortar, metal, nails, cut rebars, etc. in the dirt. We will diligently and persistently continue to police the fields to pick up anything toxic or dangerous for years to come @ ALDABRAMAN.

Please don't ever dig down close beside you house. What he is holding you will find in large quantity. ON a jobsite the trash bin is below where you are standing. Many years ago I did basement waterproofing and we had to clean the footers so the spray could get good adhesion. I never wanted to do a wall after they started framing always before. I wish it was different but your story rings so true to this day!

Hey! Any Aldabra Breeders in Socal? I spoke to Toucan Jungle but he doesn't have any babies currently. Also, I have California Desert Tortoises. I am assuming if I get an Aldabra I should keep them completely separated because of upper respitory disease?
Each species needs to be separate from the others. Always.
