@ALDABRAMAN Greg, do the Aldabras dig a body pit before nesting to get the nest deeper? Sulcatas are the only tortoises I've seen use this strategy, but that is understandable as they need deeper nests to avoid cooking the eggs in the Sahel of Africa. How deep does it end up being to the center of the eggs in the nest?

And... congrats on a nice big clutch of 14 eggs! WOW!!

We always offer the female egg layer extra food as she is completing her nesting process. The food varies and is placed near the edge of the nesting area for convenience and easy access. Many of times they will eat the food and continue to guard, etc. the nest. We will also put extra bowls of fresh water near her for a few days to insure she has easy access to water to ensure re hydration. During the egg laying / nesting process they use a lot of water, both from the digging and actual egg delivery.
