Hi All!
We are very excited to have welcomed a Russian Tortoise into our home last week. I've been browsing threads and I would really like to get you guys input on our guy Shay. I would really like to know how old you all think he is, if you think he was caught or bred in captivity, and if anyone knows what this bump is on his back leg . Thanks everyone!20210508_101440.jpg20210508_092709.jpg

There aren't too many Russian breeders in the U.S., so chances are pretty good your tortoise is wild caught. Hard to know the age, but my GUESS is around fourteen or fifteen years - full grown, for sure.

If memory serves (I'm too lazy to go look at my male Russian) males have a little spur on their back legs like the Greeks do. Is there a bump similar to this one on the back of the other leg? It does look strange, though, doesn't it? Almost like a little plug of some sort.
