In my "Make Do Enclosure" thread I mentioned that I have two and a half female 'regular' leopard tortoises. This was my feeble attempt at making a joke out of this poor tortoise's life previous to coming to live with me. She's mature because the previous owner says she lays eggs, and I have no reason to doubt that because "Half Pint" has laid eggs while she's been living here. She's about 8" long by 6" wide (the tiles on my counter are 3.5" square). I didn't weigh her, but she's heavy, like maybe about 7 or 8 pounds. Without further ado, here's Half Pint:
It's amazing the resilience of these creatures! That she could continue to live in obviously WRONG conditions is a testament to how hardy they are. It will be interesting to see if she will grow or if she's stunted for the rest of her life.
