In my "Make Do Enclosure" thread I mentioned that I have two and a half female 'regular' leopard tortoises. This was my feeble attempt at making a joke out of this poor tortoise's life previous to coming to live with me. She's mature because the previous owner says she lays eggs, and I have no reason to doubt that because "Half Pint" has laid eggs while she's been living here. She's about 8" long by 6" wide (the tiles on my counter are 3.5" square). I didn't weigh her, but she's heavy, like maybe about 7 or 8 pounds. Without further ado, here's Half Pint:

It's amazing the resilience of these creatures! That she could continue to live in obviously WRONG conditions is a testament to how hardy they are. It will be interesting to see if she will grow or if she's stunted for the rest of her life.

You call it a half Bc it’s neither male or female...?
I’m confused.
In any case looks like it had some MBD.
I know it will be happy and heathy under your wonderful care.

I called her 'half' because she's half the size of a mature female leopard tortoise.

Oh I see.
Yeah, clearly I know nothing about how big an adult leopard should be. ??‍♂️
do you know how old it is?
Maybe it’s not done growing yet...?

She's beautiful! But so heartbreaking that someone kept her so poorly that she is like this.

I'm starting to think that tortoises are, if not the most, one of the most abused/neglected pets on the planet. So awful. :tort:?

The male I rescued a few years back that couldn't walk was small for its age. He was about half the size of my other Male of same age. With proper care, he not only caught up, it passed the size of my other male.
However, there wasn't any mbd. If she doesn't catch up to a normal size, it would probably be due more to the mbd then the other improper care she had.
