    Human touch

My sulcata Rocky seems to be getting a little sweeter lately. He's always been a bit sassy. I posted about him rubbing on me and I didnt know what was going on. He likes to eat his treats from the lap of my s.o.

Wishful thinking, or does shell / pyramiding look better?

May be early to tell but I'm sure new growth will come in smooth with changes like that! I had some lapses in humidity with rocky growing up from time to time and he has a few ridges here and there but since he's big enough to summer outside the same thing happened. Better new growth.

Cooper update! And I'm Back from the dead!

I'm back from the dead as well, I never forgot big ol cooper and how fast he grew. Had to do a search and see an update.

    Rocky rubs like a cat

I did bring him a handful of carrots today and rubbed his shell while he ate. As soon as I touched him he plopped down. Almost like it was a comfort come to think of it. Maybe I'm crazy, but I know they are intelligent and in my observation it is the intelligent species who tend to be affectionate.

    Rocky rubs like a cat

Rocky never seemed the affectionate type. Lately he's been acting out of character. Silly little things, he's being a booger. I don't know if he's missing me because I work 3rd shift now or what. I was starting to think he thought of me as an annoyance. Just the other day I let him loose to roam...

    Rocky rubs like a cat

He's got plenty of shade and all that. He is a weirdo lately. He has always liked his head scratched especially if he's shedding and little pieces pop off under my fingernails, I imagine that has to be itchy. He never really responded to me rubbing his shell before even though I always do. It...

    Rocky rubs like a cat

Hey guys, been a while, so rocky is still going strong. Getting big. Has attitude. Today he did something strange. I am well aware tortoises to not like their rear messed with and they do a booty dance, well as I was squatting down in his pen out side to give him water, I filled up his water tub...

    EBT healed injury

Well he's outside in a pen, thus far he has no problem smushing down in tall grass but no actual digging has occurred.

What's the most difficult tortoise to look after?

Sulcata's do need to be babied as little ones, and they need a secure and warm outdoor enclosure when they get older. Yes it does take work but frankly, I've had a harder time keeping box turtles in a pen than Rocky. As Tom said, my boy is outside during summer months mowing the lawn, I do still...

    Mazuri pellet food

Ah the days when rocky was little and I had to prepare his meals. He spends his days out mowing my forest of a lawn now but we started him with mazuri as a little one, with mixed greens and grasses as well. He didn't like it that much to start with though. He didn't like a lot of things sulcatas...

    I need sulcata info

Man that's kind of hard to look at, I'm so glad you got her. At least you are willing to do research to accommodate her. Hopefully she will grow big and round now instead of pointed and out. When she's all grown up you would never know she had a problem.

need help.. what kind of turtle is this?

Shell is dark, looks like he was kept inside, claws look awfully long too. I'm no expert, I've only got one and he stays outside during the summer days, his shell has lightened with sunlight and his claws are worn to walk comfortably. Maybe he had an owner with good intentions but if you find...

    Oh Bob :(

Oh how I have missed Bob stories. Rocky is no where near as big as Bob yet but he's big enough to step on your toes and you sure feel it. He's a terrible pain to bring inside at night when he beds down in his pen outside, or even if I need to wake him from a mid-day nap. I can't imagine pulling...

    EBT healed injury

Sound just like me but I'm on a laptop. Fostering kittens as well and they tend to be on the laptop pushing buttons or asleep on my shoulders. I'm taking vacation time from work though so isn't that what it's for? Lazy? I'd love to go back out on my bicycle with my dog but I kinda wiped out a...

    EBT healed injury

I can ask my vet. She does herps, she loves my snakes and Rocky. I think I'll set him up an outside pen and see what he does. If he can dig. I know I said I'd post pics. No excuse other than laziness. I will get to it though.

    EBT healed injury

We've got lots of EBT's around here since I moved. Seem to find a couple on the road every month during summer. Usually tend to be females, I've had a couple that were outgoing and a couple that were terribly shy, we don't keep them. Just chill with them during the hotter parts of the day until...

    EBT healed injury

Hi all, been a while. Rocky (my sulcata) is doing great btw. Anyway, I'm back because I had a small male box turtle brought to me this morning. Seems otherwise healthy, but he's missing an entire front leg and only has one claw left on the other arm. It is healed but it doesn't look terribly...
