    Are enclosures essential?

If you saw my other comment I talked about a different set up where he would have access to all of those things. Thanks for your advice

    Are enclosures essential?

I've had him over 5 years and researched well. Was thinking of setting something up slightly differently rather than not having anything for him. He has a lamp and a plain heat lamp for night. He has correct substrate etc... Thanks for you opinions I'll keep it as it is.

    Are enclosures essential?

He has an outside and inside enclosure both specially made for him so they are suitable. The outside enclosure is also large. But it doesn't matter how big they are he doesn't like staying in them. Outside he has no choice as there are dangers. Inside he can roam outside his enclosure as I've...

    Are enclosures essential?

Hi I'd be interested in your thoughts. My tortoise is never really in his enclosure and likes to be out and about. At present it's indoors as we're in London and it's nippy out. But then it got me thinking why do I have the enclosure? He's hardly under his heat lamp as he's roaming. He's a...

    Waking up Advice

Thanks. I was planning that but wanted to be sure. He's in the fridge so no chance of waking up by himself.

    Waking up Advice

I seem to have successfully hibernated my Russian. I have checked on him daily and he seems to being doing well. It's his first hibernation and mine! I am planning to wake him on Monday and would like any advice from experienced hibernators. I have followed the vets advice on the length...

    Hibernation

Hi. It's my second yr of owning my Russian. He is roughly 5-6 years old. The last week or so he has been very sleepy not eating much and hardly moving about. On nice days when outside he is usually active and climbing everywhere but this has not been the case. My instinct is he is getting...

    Woodlice

I had no idea if they were called pill bugs or roly poly but googled it and yes its them! That's a great help thanks all. If they return I'll leave them be instead of being a bug killer!

    Woodlice

Hi all Are Woodlice harmful to tortoises? In the UK we have had rain rain and more rain. As a result (i think) Woodlice had made home in the shelter part of my outside run. I have cleaned them out moved the run and treated the Woodlice to get rid. But was wondering would they harm a...

    Always getting into trouble!

Merlin M. So true! Reggie is quite keen on my son and whenever he is out and Louis is sitting on the floor, he climbs all over him and eventually settles to rest on his chest! Louis is great and puts up with it and doesn't tempt Reggie to do it, he just does.

    Always getting into trouble!

My Reggie is always trying to get into places he should'nt. When its too cold I let him roam indoors, blocking areas I think could be dangerous and he always gets up to mischief! I've added some pics just for fun and cos I love him!

    NEW HIDE?

I am very cautious of heat and safety and have the light positioned at a safe height. When he was using it he would get under and lift it and walk it to where he wanted it (a walking log!). He has become very freindly and feels a lot safer in our company, so perhaps he just wants to sleep out...

    NEW HIDE?

Thanks for your reply. I think I will get a bigger one and see how he gets on. He has loose substrate so can burrow if he wants to. Until very recently he move the log to where he wanted it and would settle down. I'm just unsure whether its choice or he can't use it (although I've placed it...

    NEW HIDE?

Hi All, I would appreciate your opinion. Up until very recently my tortoise lived under his log. But now doesn't seem to use it at all. It was always a snug fit which I think he liked. I'm wondering if he just doesn't want to use it or if he has outgrown it (doesn't seem like it, but...

    Tortoise Penis

I think it will suprise you at first. Reggie was in his water and I noticed a huge purple mass under his body. At first I just panicked and then soon realised what it was when it disapeared and then was there again. Poor thing then had all of the family staring at him wondering what was...

    Tortoise Penis

OMG, just thought my Reggie (horsefield) was seriously hurt with an organ hanging out. Took me a few moments to realise it was his winkie. Never thought something so large was concealed in his little body! Very strange looking too. Panic now over!:tort::tort:

    Poorly Tort, WORRIED!

Hi all, Thanks for your help and advice. He seems to be doing really well, he is much brighter and his eys are better but don't think completely ok. He still isn't eating loads but choosing to eat a bit more alone if the food is near. He is becoming a little nosey agian, which is fab. I'm...

    Cuttlebone?

Has anyone got any tips on getting their tortoise to actually eat the cuttlefish? I have had my Tort for 5 months and have always provided him with cuttlefish but am not sure he had it before I had him. He's beak is a little overgrown and a vet wanted to trim it the other day but Reggie was...
