Oh - outdoor humidity was 70% today. her current temp area has sand/weeds. The other spot I was thinking about has rocks, but I wanted to spread some sphagnum moss over part of the area so she has diferent substrates.
I did't get a pic today... I'll get one tomorrow. She did move around a lot more todya. It was cloudy and in the 70s, everytime I looked she was somewhere else. I picked out a spot in the flower garden that is already planted, has shade nd sun, and gets mornign sun. So I'll get some pics of both...
Outdoor enclosure, it's summer here so temps are in the 80's, going down to the 60's at night. I could put more plants in the enclosure. I wasn't too prepared for her - I was planning on getting a Russian Tortoise - and then I was "gifted" with this one, so I strung together a quick enclosure...
so... i was given a turtle. I think it is an eastern box turtle.
Its been a week and i havent seen her eat. I dont know if she ate the worms i gave her or if they escaped into the ground. I give her different greens and turtle pellets at night so they r there when the sun comes up, chicken...
I've been watching the adoption sites/craigslist waiting for spring, and I saw a craigslist add for a male/female pair that have apparently been living together for 5 years. After reading all this, it sounds odd. I can't imaging how 5 years later, they are both still healthy.
Yeah... My cockatiels have been producing babies... I got to where I swap out their eggs for dummy eggs, because it is difficult vetting out new owners. Cockatiels are such social creatures, I don't want them being cage birds, and not getting enough attention. They can't compete with a dog for...
I don't know about tortoises... but when my rabbit lost it's bonded partner, she grieved. Yes, I'm using the human term grieve, because I don't know what the term is in the rabbit mind. Her expressions of joy stopped. Rabbits run and jump and twist mid-air to express joy. She expressed no joy...
Getting back to the original question... I don't think it is creating a time bomb. If it were, we would already be there. Not all hatchlings survive once they get to their new owners. Between malnutrition, poor general care, accidents, escapees, predators, and so forth, many pets die. Those that...
I'm sure it keeps forever as long as it is dry and airtight, but since the label says do not use after a year past the manufacture date, I have to assume that it loses nutritional value.
The "good stuff" you refer to is the "tortoise" versus the "tortoise LS". What's the difference between them if I may ask? I've been looign them up, since I use Mazuri softbill pellets for my birds. But what's the difference int he tortoise pelets?
Alright, sounds good.
Leigti - I've also used treated lumber in the bird aviary: these days they don't use arsenic to treat outdoor lumber. So unless it's a parrot with a large beak that wants to chew on everything, I haven't had an issue with outdoor-treated lumber. I have also used it in some...
Hey I appreciate the comments. On the rabbit forums, I give people advice all the time. So I'm certainly understand the benefits of being on the receiving end :-) Cedar is something to think about. From what I've read, as far as birds go, red cedar should be avoided, but there are other kinds of...
Hmmm... I could just build a separate area attatched to the outside of the aviary. Since it is in the front yard, it has to look attractive. My backup plan was to build something that looks like a 3 foot wide planter and run it along the length of the aviary. Plant it, throw some soil in, and...
The paving stones are comming out of the center. I'll only have them just on the inside and outside of the perimiter. I want a shaded section to keep part of the enclosure dry, since I'll have finches in there. Enclosure are sure fun to build. My original bird aviary was many versions ago...
