I like the idea of using a shower rod for plants and lights. I would recommend against heating mats for any reptile as they can get too hot.. I'm not experienced enough to answer your other questions but hopefully someone will soon.

After some confusion and searching around and reading, I have become impatient waiting for my tortoise table and am going to use laminate flooring to line the inside! There was nothing on any of the shelves that I felt was safe enough while at the same time being effective at moisture prevention.

I picked up a combo light for my Hermann's baby, Atlas. It's UVB and Heat. I'm wondering about night time though. It's an indoor enclosure and in my room. The bulb is very bright to sleep with it on and I know the tort needs darkness at night as well, but if I turn the light off it's taking away...
