    Finally a forstens owner

Thanks to Ben, my group of forstens is coming together. I have two others from a breeder in Missouri. These three are F1's from his breeding group. They're all in separate quarantine due to the size differences for now. Just the second day and they're eating. I hope to add another 7...

How long should a tortoise be kept before its sold?

I am one of those people that has bought wild caught specimens in the past, including tortoises as well as other animal species. A few times retail establishments have had what I've been looking for, the places that get their tortoises from a middle man or wholesaler. One of the...

$50 Russian in Northern California (Placerville)

Its been fed romaine and bell peppers. Not sure if the reddish hue on the skin is the actual skin color or from subtrate. Hopefully, its not being kept on Calcisand. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/grd/2889870705.html

Recreated enclosure for Hermanns and Russians PIC HEAVY

This floorplan is for two sections, each one is 4'4" by 9'8". I decided not to cement the blocks, since we may be moving sometime in the next few years. Rather, I ran the 2x4's throughout to help sturdy the blocks. I used beamblock. Similar to cinderblock, but has notches cut in it to run...

    Another weed in my backyard

This also grew in my backyard over the winter here in Northern California. I can't seem to match it up with anything. It grew in a small patch near the side of the house which doesn't get much sun. Before I yank them, what are they? And are they edible?

    Plant ID, Dandelion?

There's a patch of this that grew in the corner of my yard over the winter. It looks a lot like dandelion, but what throws me off is some of the reddish lines in some of the stalks. It also seems to have a bitter smell that the dandelion I grow doesn't have. Is this dandelion or something else?

    Armenian Greeks

A local club member is selling his group of Greek tortoises. These have four toes on the front legs, and most of them are nearly entirely black or dark, lacking patterns. They are also rounder than most Greeks seem to be. I should have taken pics. He says these Greeks are unique to...

What type of hingeback is this?

My nephews saw this on a commercial site. They like the darker colors on these guys, and asked me if I knew anything about them. They want some now. I know nothing about hingebacks, other than that there are different types. They're simply labelled as 'hinge-back tortoise', 4"-7"...

4 "Sulcata russians", a California Desert 'Turtle' and a box turtle

They're all housed together. I don't know where he got his info on 'sulcata russians'. He's included a California Desert "Turtle" for SALE. And he's got them all mixed together with a box turtle. Hard to tell from the pics if it really is a box turtle or if its a mis-id...

General Tortoise Discussion: Why are some posts moved out and others are not?

Just to satisfy my own curiosity, I recently noticed that some posts (even though they are tortoise related) are moved, but other similar posts are not. Example: Question related to health and substrate was moved out of General Tortoise Discussion into Tortoise Health...

    Neck Wound

About a year ago, I sold two Russian hatchlings to a woman. I can usually convince people to buy just one, or suggest three or more. Every once in a while, you get a buyer that wants two and they claim that they'll separate if necessary. Fast forward one year later. Aside from a few...

Live kitten fed to burmese python

Don't check out the link if you're squeamish. The pics are graphic. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2069512/Python-Christmas-video-Hunt-twisted-sadisctic-thug-fed-kitten-python.html Lot of controversy on the guy that fed a live kitten to a burmese python. Its created a huge...

Some people are pretty scary - stupid - underhanded - take your pick!

I'd like to replace the word crappy in the subject line with something else, but can't without getting an infraction. About a week ago, I walked out of a Moroccan restaurant with my nephews. They really like the place because you get to sit on the floor and eat with your hands. I like the...

    Should this animal be euthanized?

I saw this posted for $500 on another site. I e-mailed an inquiry just out of curiousity with questions regarding the turtle's(turtles'?) mobility, eating habits, and coordination. I was told that the turtle swims, walks around, and eats just fine. I don't believe this turtle could actually...

    Sulcata Central California

This is just sad. $400 for what appears to be about a 5-6" sulcata. I'm guessing he's trying to recoup the costs of supplies too. Poor guy is living on alfafa pellets. Not sure if its getting any UVB. I'm guessing its not getting a high enough basking temp either. Maybe someone could...
