This also grew in my backyard over the winter here in Northern California. I can't seem to match it up with anything. It grew in a small patch near the side of the house which doesn't get much sun. Before I yank them, what are they? And are they edible?

There's a patch of this that grew in the corner of my yard over the winter. It looks a lot like dandelion, but what throws me off is some of the reddish lines in some of the stalks. It also seems to have a bitter smell that the dandelion I grow doesn't have. Is this dandelion or something else?
