Hi @abyrhianl, Welcome to the Forum! I literally live down the road from you, I am in Crewe. You could try looking on Northampton Reptile Centre, they grow organic live plants for feeding that are available all year round, I have a couple that I grow on my windowsill, Dandelion and ribwort...
@Reptilony I must admit I hadn't considered that... I don't think there is anything that could concentrate the light, I have no glass ornaments that could concentrate the light and the window is out to the back of the house which looks out over the garden and backs on to a main road so its not...
@Yvonne G the hide is plastic and I had thought it wasn't strong enough to be able to break the glass or I wouldn't have put it there. There are no sharp edges on it but Toby does rub her/his shell (sorry I am still not 100% sure on gender) in the doorway so I suppose it could have been that. I...
Thanks @Gillian Moore I'm just so glad I was home. Toby is curious and would have eventually gone to investigate and could easily have fallen off! I have always intended to upgrade Toby to a bigger enclosure as s/he gets bigger but this table has been perfect until now while Toby is growing.
@Yvonne G I have no idea! I have been told that the only way to break safety glass is to hit it with a sharp object or if there is a sudden drastic change in temperature then it could shatter. The latter is impossible as the room is kept at a controlled temperature for Toby and there is nothing...
I have been debating whether to post this or not because I feel so upset and stupid but decided its better to warn others about it. I have kept Toby on a vivexotic tortoise table (plus extension as she grew with a homemade cover to hold humidity) for the last 4 years without a problem. A couple...
Oh my goodness! They are so tiny and sweet :<3: 17 babies and another 8 to hatch... what will you do with them all? :D Very funny that they just keep popping up out of the ground, it's as if the females are saying "you let 4 of the babies go so we will breed like crazy to make up for it" hahaha!
Just curious, if humidity and external hydration is key to smooth shell growth, how does this work for desert species? How have they adapted to find enough moisture to keep them from pyramiding?
Hi and welcome to the forum, unfortunately I am still fairly new to turtle keeping myself so can't offer a lot of advice. I can offer a couple of bits of advice, the first being that yellow bellied slider need to eat in the water so please only feed them in their water and not out of a feeding...
Thanks @Anyfoot that's good to know. Toby is refusing to show me his/her tail, I've been trying to get a picture for days after his/her soak... is there a way I can coax him/her to stick it out without hurting him/her?
@Anyfoot you say that the scl is throwing you and I have seen many other posts where at this size sex can be determined, do you think Toby is growing abnormally? As I said, I have had Toby for 4 years and he/she was about 3.5 inches SCL when I got him/her and approx. 1 year old (only approximate...
