Hi all,
I'm hoping for some help sexing this sub-adult pancake. The shorter tail seems to indicate female, but I find it tough to know for certain until they're full grown. Appreciate any insight people may have.
I'll second this. I found two clutches of Russian eggs last fall (5 total eggs). 4 showed immediate signs of fertility and hatched early Jan, 2022. There was nothing happening with the last egg until a couple weeks after the others hatched, when I candled again and could see that it was...
I have a couple larger adult leopard tortoises (around 13/14 inches) and am looking at a male, who is over 10 years old, but only 9 inches (stunted growth likely related to poor care earlier in his life). What are the chances this male would make a good breeder for the females given the size...
I'm looking at buying a couple of older leopards. I was told they were 1.1, but after looking into this further and consulting a breeder, it looks more like 2 females. Curious if anyone sees it differently.
Thanks for any input.
They are an awesome and unique species. A setup with plenty of places to climb and hide are preferable in my opinion, as you will get to see the exact behaviour that makes them so cool.
Prior to getting mine, I had heard a lot about them being shy and often running for cover. However, in the...
Also, i'm on the west coast and cypress mulch is proving impossible to find locally. Are there any other barks/mulches that are OK? There is lots of hemlock mulch available here but i've read mixed reviews on the safety of using that for tortoises.
I have built a nice pen for my redfoots in the yard, but right now it is covered only in dirt. The dirt here is kind of sandy, and is scattered with a few plants (dandelion and other weeds). Should I be getting some mulch to put over top of it or are there any other suggestions?
I am in...
Thanks for the replies. I should have been more clear; what I meant is at what size can they produce viable eggs? I looked for adults for several months without success so I have decided to get some hatchlings and raise them myself. Hence me wondering when they will be big enough to produce eggs...
I am likely getting a large reptile vision enclosure to keep pancake tortoises indoors. I am wondering if anyone else has used these for tortoises? If so, what have you used to provide additional heat, on top of the heat lamp insert on top of the cage?
I am getting my cage together and am looking forward to getting a couple pancake tortoises pretty quickly. I have a few questions though, that have remained unanswered as I've been reading online.
- What is the best ambient air temp for an indoor enclosure, both during the day and at night...
Looking to set up a little group, so please send me pictures of what you have available. I'd prefer animals with higher color, but will consider any easterns.
Must be at least sub adult, as well as either CB or LTC.
Thanks!
