Are you able to gently flex his foot forward and backward? Does he react at all when you do?
Is he still walking around a relatively normal amount, or is he noticeably inactive? Eating fine?
Recently, Curtis made a pile so large that my parents had to text me pictures because they were worried it was from a coyote or some kind of huge animal. I don't know how they fit all of it in there, much less get it out!
It seems that a rabbit and her babies have once again made a home in Button’s pen. One corner of the enclosure is particularly overgrown, and I was going to take a weed wacker to it, but it looks like they’re all hiding in it. Guess I’ll leave it :)
This seems to happen every spring, or at...
To be fair to the tortoises, I’ve tried aloe before offering it to my sulcata. Super bitter, kinda nasty (to me, anyway). Understandably, he didn’t eat it either.

Here is a good visualization of why those “intense spot” bulbs are a poor choice for tortoises. They’re fine for some other reptiles, but tortoises are very unique in that they have a thick, hard dome covering most of their body that ideally needs to be evenly heated by a large heat source, like...
Actually, are you entirely sure it couldn’t have been done by the predators you mentioned? They should still be separated, of course, but I would wonder if it wasn’t done by a raccoon, rat, or cat.
I don’t have any recommendations for you, but thank you for sharing this. Many people get pairs of redfoots assuming it’ll be fine because they’re a more “communal” species. It’s very helpful to have records, even anecdotal, of stuff like this. A lot of times, when something like this goes...
Definitely looks like two sulcatas to me.
A few years back, a friend's sister saw little baby Curtis and decided she just HAD to have a tortoise. Found someone on craigslist selling their hatchling female "sulcata" that the seller had just pulled out from under their couch after it had been...
