My wife is growing sweet potatoes and they have a huge amount of leaves. We read they are edible for humans, but are they ok for a marginated tort?
Just wondering. Always looking to add a variety to her diet.
Thanks in advance guys !
I'm going to grow them in a 4x1.5 grow box. Just not sure how much of the seeds to use. Can't imagine using the whole 1/4 pound. Figured sprinkle a covering of seeds over the soil and then cover with another layer of soil.
i ordered this broadleaf seed mix from Carolina Pet Supply to grow food for my Margi.
Do all these plants look good for food?
I ordered a 1/4 pound. Any words of wisdom of growing them? How much of the seeds do I plant at once?
Any help is appreciated. I don't necessarily have a green thumb...
Can you get the Arcadia tubes in the US? Any specific model recommended? Does the D3+ T-5 model look good. Not being familiar with the bulbs, there are a bunch of options.
Any problem with just using the UV tube or is it necessary to have two types of tubes ?
No, no fruit at all.
Just what I listed so far.
I believe she was on primarily varied tortoise foods before I got her and I was told she used to go solid round/sausage stools before. So, I'm assuming it's the change in her diet since I've had her.
I think I will feed her primarily the...
While I'm waiting for my Tustudo mix seeds to arrive,
I need to figure out what to feed my girl to firm up her stools.
I've been feeding her hibiscus, kale, spring mix greens, Zoomed grassland tort food...
Haven't had much more than that available yet to me for her.
Her stools are still too...
Thanks for the reply Tom. Always appreciate your input
I'm hoping she will get accustomed to her new home I time.
Do you think I should replace the front plexi with solid wood or will she get used to the plexi after a while?
As far as the size of the enclosure, it's as big as I could go.
I...
Ok, so this is the background to my question about my 7 y/o Margi Tort.
I have her in a new enclosure. Wood with a plexi front. See photo.
She paces back and forth along the plexi and tries to climb up. Only in that part of the enclosure.
So, to see if it would deter her, I covered the...
Ok, I see what you are talking about regarding the dome diameter now. Thanks for clarifying that Tom.
I will have to see what I can do then about a larger dome. My set up has a narrow top of only 6" deep due to my design, so the light is mounted toward the front edge of the top already and That...
Looking at the 10" & 12" fixtures, they don't seem to be any deeper though. Just larger in diameter. So the bulb would still stick out past the rim. I'm not sure how that would solve my issue with having a larger diameter fixture. But I may be missing something.
That's why I was wondering if...
Thanks for the reply Yvonne,
Unfortunately I don't have the room for a fixture that size in my enclosure. I'm limited on space.
I definitely don't have the ability to change out the bulb in the middle of my work day :-)
I may have to go to a incandescent bulb for heat and a seperate UV light...
Just getting my enclosure finished for my Margi (7 y/o).
I bought a 8.5 " light fixture from Zoomed and I went with a 100W MV bulb from Flukers.
After setting it up, I noticed that the bulb is pretty deep and stick out pretty far from the fixture. I assume it should be set up in the reflector...
Tom...you are so right... I am driving myself nuts, but that is my MO ...I'm a researcher...
The Reptibark says it's "fir bark" ... So how does that compare to the fine grade orchid bark you mentioned?
