    First time egg layer

This is her first clutch of eggs she has laid. She started yesterday pacing her pen I had a feeling she was looking for a good spot to nest. 11 o’clock this morning she picked a spot and 4 hours later eggs were laid and hole filled back in. She didn’t dig deep maybe 8 inches. With out trying to...

    Pigweed

I did a Google search to see if pig weed is edible. It started growing in my sulcata and leopard pens. I blocked off that part of the yard so they can't get to it. I been getting rid of it. But this Oregon 100 degree weather it spread like wildfire. Should I still get rid of it? It multiplies...

    Golf ball sized urates

My larger sulcatas I soak one to two times a week. During a soak this afternoon one of them was really struggling. Back legs were stretched shell was pushed up high. I tried to look under and didn't see anything. Lots of bubbles coming up so figured she was passing gas. A few minutes later I saw...

    New growth

I've had this sulcata for about a year and new shell growth is starting to come out. It literally looks like a welding bead around all the scutes just on top of the shell. Just looks odd to me. My other sulcata never grew like this. The top of the shell is flat and appears to be sunk down. Maybe...

    First mouse

Senior tortuga ate his first pinky mouse today. As soon as he saw it he took it right out of my fingers. He loved it so much he wouldn't let go! I was afraid his jaws wouldn't be strong enough to eat it. He pretty much inhaled it.

I lost a sulcata this morning. Help understanding why

A few weeks ago my 5 month old sulcata started loosing weight. About 2 grams a day. I've been watching him in his soaks and he hasn't been drinking. He stopped eating as well. His energy level stayed the same nothing to alarming. He loved his head rubbed and when I rub his head he always opened...

    Juvenile sulcata indoor enclosure.

Suggestions appreciated. What I have so far is pretty basic. Before building this I tested how well I could heat and maintain humidity in this room. Keeping it at 80 degrees is no problem I can maintain warmer if need be. Humidity stays relatively high 75%-85%. I'm running a humidifier and also...

    Opuntia question

When feeding opuntia to leopards or sulcatas do you guys burn off the glochids? I've been growing opuntia for awhile now and use a torch to burn off the glochids before cutting off a cladode to feed to the tortoises. I'm asking this question because the cactus has pretty much taken over the area...

    Essential oils

This is my first post and have really learned alot from this forum. I did a search but didn't find anything on this. I recently added a humidifier to my tortoise room. I have leopards and sulcatas. My humidifier has a built in diffuser and was wondering if using scented oils would cause...
