Definitely more aquatic than terristrial, especially as babies. I would completely scrap this setup and set it up as a shallow water enclosure with numerous places for it to climb out of the water on.
My Mississippi Mud Turtle got her head stuck in the intake of a filter back in 2013, I'm not sure how long she was there but when I got home and saw her I immediately removed her and started turtle cpr and after about 20 mins of doing so she was revived and started moving. Since then I've kept...
Yeah I keep him pretty wet lol, he is actually in my Russian enclosure here because I had to clean out all the rotten greens in his enclosure which is why he is dry. I like to keep his uneaten food in there for a few days for the isopods to munch on and then remove it. I said this in my post...
Thanks guys. Him and my Manouria which I purchased at the same time were my first hatchlings and I've been really pleased with my results. Ultilized a variance on Tom's methods for Sulcatas with some changes to suit their needs as well as some more controversial husbrandry elements like no UVB...
Ultimately the difference between a turtle and tortoise comes down to fairly superficial morphology differences. Tortoises have columnar hind limbs while no turtle does. Some also point to heavy domed carapaces but not all Tortoises are domed and not all turtles are flat.
Because it's a turtle. I know smart-*** answer but that really is the answer. Box Turtles are members of Emydidae which is same family that most American pond turtles such as Sliders, Painted Turtles, etc are in. Box Turtles therefore evolved from semi aquatic ancestors and in fact, many species...
They have been seperated for a while already. The real aggressor is the female and not the male. She is very very good aggressive and will not allow him to eat if kept together. She is much larger and will shove him out of the way and then just sit on the food to prevent him from eating.
I don't think I've ever posted anything about my two Leo's Barb and Star before. My wife bought them for me two years ago at a local pet store that was pretty much giving them away due to lack of interest in them. I think she got both for $50. The bigger female, Barb, had RI at first that took...
This is a scam. I've seen her name more than a few times on Facebook for scamming people anc she steals photos of tortoises and then passes them on as ones she has for sale.
Supervise their contact. I only allow my males and females to have limited contact and watch to ensure there is no big amounts of violence. Males will attempt to bite females and that's a normal behavior.
Yeah, he was a Facebook purchase here locally. No idea what locale he is from because he looks nothing like the EBT we have around here. The previous owner wasn't sure either. He is nuts looking in person.
Yeah, I mostly keep them indoors now.I live in a area not suitable to keeping then outdoors currently but hopefully that changes soon. I'm looking to move out into the country and building a greenhouse outdoor enclosure for everyone I have
