I'm planning to build an indoor enclosure for my rads, has to be big enough when they are adults, so I'm going to try to make it as big as possible, I'm thinking around 10' x 5', laid on the floor.
I want to know what you are using, pictures are appreciated.
I just found another batch of eggs days later my hermann's laid them, they probably have been buried for good 2-3 weeks. Could this cause deaths to the eggs?
Anyone had this happen to them?
I'm going to get this 12'x6'x5' dog kennel as my outdoor enclosure.
It doesn't have a top, I'll have to put another fence on top or use metal mesh, hopefully it will be predator proof(hawks, raccoons etc)
Thoughts?
A dream vacation for me would be Madagascar.
Has anyone been there? I was watching some videos of wild radiated tortoises, not all of them had smooth shells, so maybe pyramiding is genetic to some extent, and same conditions will yield smooth and less smooth shells.
I weighed mine, they remained the same over a month, around 140grams.
How much are your rads growing in the winter? I wonder if they'll grow faster in summer months.
Ever since I started raising my radiateds, I got interested in growing indoor plants native to their environment to feed them. Do any of you keep any malagasy plants that are edible for the tortoises? I was thinking of Alluaudia(spiny plants).
Any hands-on experience is welcome.
I thought I'd post pictures of my hermann's, I had them for 5 years now, she laid eggs last year, none fertile though, let's see what happens in the next batch.
Not the most natural enclosure, I used to have very natural setups, but these guys are just way too destructive and I gave up. I'll...
Their humid hide is covered with paper towel, with yellow sponge on top, one of them must confused the sponge with fruit, and tried to climb up(he was finally succesful after weeks of attempts).
In second picture, he fell asleep, it must have been an exhausting process.
