Chris Leone- Garden State Tortoise & Hermanni Haven

Chris at Garden State gets a lot of well deserved props for his work with Testudo, however this is by no means the extent of his expertise. I have obtained a Mee (4 years ago) and more recently a pancake and in both instances was impressed with his knowledge, husbandry, and customer service. I...

Ziggy tortoise, and the Turtles from Mars

Morning all, I would like to introduce Ziggy, The inspiration for her name I got her from some guy online. He said she’s from a rare Wakanda sub species. She actually enjoys the water. Possibly got some sea turtle genes in there.

    Happy World Turtle Day!

In honor of the shelled ones, I would humbly suggest supporting the Turtle Conservancy or the equivalent organization of your choice. It’s cheap, it’s important, and you just may score a righteous tote. Cheers!

Just joined...looking for help setting up

I have that same size tank I use for my hatchling nursery, but as has been stated, it won’t be large enough for a juvenile, much less an adult tortoise to be very happy. Have you considered aquatics or semi-aquatics? A smaller species of mud or musk turtle, a southern painted, could all be...

    Mixing slider water turtles

As a bit of a counterpoint, I think aquatics too are better off kept as individuals. A lot of very experienced and smart people keep multiple individuals and different species together, but I have tried it and don’t like it. (Caveat- I’ve never had my own pond). Here’s what I mean- an well-fed...

New Stack of Animal Plastics CLosed Chambers

I am thinking about a T65 (96x30x18) as a hatchling leopard home for 1-2 years and then a forever home for a star. (Both would have outside space too, of course). Does this sound doable or should I go bigger?

    External hydration

Wow, what a fun post! It’s probably helpful to remember that a theory is testable, predictive, and explanatory. That’s a concise way of saying that it’s not susceptible to a breakdown in a fingernail analogy, your opinion, or excessive uses of ellipses... To my understanding, the terms...

    My turtle isn't eating

Hi there. Lots of possibilities here, from water quality, to the recent move. But just to start simply, my understanding is that maps are highly carnivorous and you might try tempting her with earth worms and soldier fly larvae. Sometimes the moving prey is hard to resist.

HAHA...Sulcata baby tortoise tracker! Following her all over yard and putting big rocks

At the risk of being accused of dead horse abuse, I would like to disagree with the assertion that leashing a tortoise is ‘100%’ safe, or even frankly, a good idea. Kiddie pools work well for temporary, supervised outside time. Actual pens are best of all.

HAHA...Sulcata baby tortoise tracker! Following her all over yard and putting big rocks

This was an incorrect and unfortunate interjection. The metaphorical ‘horse’ isn’t dead yet. That is quite clearly the point.
