Cheers!
The background is made from 60x90cm sheets of cork backgrounds I cut lengthways to make them 30x90cm strips. I used these as I found them on sale...
Thanks,
Yes, it will be for a Marginated who is about 3.5 years old - sorry for not including that. I certainly take your point about a Solarmeter 6.5 - it's on the list of 'to buys' but shelling out for the new enclosures build materials has wiped me out for the next month or so. I fully...
Just purchased a :
Arcadia Euro Range 10% D3+ Desert Reptile Light, 1050mmh
I've looked all over the packaging but can't find any info on how far from my tort I should be mounting it. The Arcadia site is currently under going maintenance and its lighting section is offline so I can't find any...
Well I've moved on from the plastic pond idea, I just couldn't find one large enough. I've settled on two of the following which I'll join together:
http://www.argos.co.uk/product/8032441
Obviously I wont be constructing the shelving parts so that should give me a table of 105cm x 140cm x 35cm...
First off - thanks for your reply, much appreciated.
You mention closed chamber enclosures and that you own a Red Foot, my understanding is that RFs require a lot higher humidity levels than Marginateds which CC enclosures are better at providing. Would a CC enclosure not pose the same risks as...
So I see a lot of folk using plastic containers of one type or another and stumbled across this:

My tortoise is about 3.5 years old so it seems a decent size for him and I'd want it to last a...
My Marginated Tortoise came down with a lower respitory infection which has now been treated with antibiotics and he is on the road to recovery. He seems to be doing much better but is currently housed in a more sterile environment while he recovers (which he hates). Just wondered if anyone had...
Hi all,
We had a shock on Monday evening when we found our 3 year old Marginated tortoise, Samson, squeaking and doing a bit of open mouth breathing (there were no other warning signs). Of course we booked him straight into seeing a reptile vet and had him checked out. By the time we got to the...
Marginated have black / creamy yellow skin on legs and head while juveniles. Mine is quite light compared to others I have seen pics of, some are really dark. I believe their skin gets darker with age.
My Marginated, Samson, is always clicking at us. Not sure if they do it to get attention or not, ours clicks when you put food down, put him in a bath or sometimes when you set him down to walk around on the ground or back in his enclosure, other times he just does it for no apparent reason...
I'm using a UVB 10 bulb as well as the basking bulb:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00912IGP4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00
It's located in the silver reflector - the one you can see in the second of the two pictures I posted.
Humidity is around 70%, it drops...
Bump - Anyone? His lights have been on since 6:30 this morning and he is yet to emerge from his burrow.... I have supplied pics of his enclosure the second showing his lighting, I have linked to the type of basking bulb and also provided the temps I record in the basking area.
I really could do...
This is the light:
http://www.thetortoiseshop.com/tortoise-lighting /ta-daisy-basking-lamp
Just to be clear, its not like I'm digging him up and then he buries himself again, which I believe is sign of the tortoise being too warm or cold. It's just some mornings he seems to remain buried for a...

That's the bulb I'm currently using.
Hey there,
From what I can tell the temps are fine, basking area at around 32c - 36c and cooler end at around 25c. I'm using a 40W basking lamp, I think it's this one:

Our marginated tortoise who is about 1 years old has started to get really lazy.... I turn on his lights at 6:30 in the morning and leave them running for 14 hours, however on some days (seems to becoming more frequent) he does not dig himself up from the corner he buries himself in until very...
As per the thread title - my bulb went this morning, I thought I had a spare but I haven't so I've ordered a new one. My question is, what can I do while I wait for it? Will my juvenile marginated tortoise be okay while I wait for the new bulb?
