Pegasus is learning to play ball!

He's a Tunisian. I know he's starting to show tortoise aggression, but he only "plays" with the yellow ball, doesn't like the other ones. It's good exercise in any case. And yes I'm aware, he doesn't roam the house. We vacuum the room thoroughly, close all the doors and there's no one in the...

A year down the line: increasing humidity to treat pyramiding in a Tunisian tort

The coconut oil is nice, it's solid at room temperature too so it's less messy to store than olive oil would be I guess! I usually give Peggy his warm bath, then when he gets grumpy and does everything he can to climb out, I pick him out, dab him dry with a flannel or kitchen towel, and then...

A year down the line: increasing humidity to treat pyramiding in a Tunisian tort

I'll be honest, I really don't know, and I don't want to advise you on stuff I have no idea about! I'm not a vet and I only keep one tortoise, and Pegasus doesn't have anything like that. I use the coconut oil because as far as I'm concerned, it won't hurt Pegasus and it might help with...

    Coconut oil on carapace?

I recently posted a thread about changing from a dryer environment to a more humid one, and I also started using coconut oil on the shell, and I'v some interesting pics on this thread on the change in the growth pattern I've seen...

A year down the line: increasing humidity to treat pyramiding in a Tunisian tort

So the reason I started using coconut oil (which is in the debatable topics section) was down to this thread http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/is-using-coconut-oil-worth-using.120298/ There is a lot of information there on coconut oil, which is supposed to moisturise, be an spf, a natural...

A year down the line: increasing humidity to treat pyramiding in a Tunisian tort

Hi Kori5, I don't know about olive oil! There was a thread on coconut oil that made me decide to try it, I'll try to find it after work and post it.

Also the doccumentation on Tunisians is a bit thin on the ground and I like to get this stuff out there.

And Peggy with his pet spider plant, which he can have with coco-coir substrate, wouldn't have been possible with beech chips!

A year down the line: increasing humidity to treat pyramiding in a Tunisian tort

It's almost exactly a year since I posted a thread on the forum looking for advice to improve the growth pattern on my Tunisian Tortoise, Pegasus. http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/tunisian-testudo-graeca-im-worried-about-his-shell.111354/ At the time I was following my breeder's advice and...

    Boy or girl?

As soon as I picked him up he pulled it all back in like he was embarrassed! It was like a massive earthworm! If I hadn't seen pics on the forum before I'd be freaking out trying to find a vet!

    Boy or girl?

Soooo, I think we have an answer to the boy/girl question! Pegasus appeared to be straining a fair amount today and when I picked him up a big purple thing was sticking out of his tail. Fairly sure he's a boy, flashing his junk at me. Gave me quite a shock, it was HUGE!

    letting them swim with supervision

I once accidentally tried to soak my tortoise in water that was too deep. He sank like a stone and bubbles came out of his nose!! Immediately grabbed him out and dabbed his nose with kitchen towel to clear his nose... Would NEVER try and get him to swim.

    Tortoise hats?

Love the balloon idea, I saw something like this when Pegasus was tiny and decided if I tried that he might fly away (he was about 5cm long...) so I tried this... Works AMAZINGLY well, he's easy to find when he wanders into a flowerbed, and doesn't blend in so much. CHEAP too, cost of rainbow...
