    Agressive stars?

Hi guys! I've just recently combined my 2 stars and they keep competing with each other. When they walk around their pen, I would see the smaller one(yoda) getting in the way if the bigger one(lucky) and she would not budge, she would push when being pushed and would just not give way, so you'd...

    Woven grass mats

Does anyone have an idea if this is ok for tortoise? I don't really need to create humidity since my country is very humid. Most substrates just give my tort runny nose. I use hay right now and rubber mats below it but the hay gets very dusty and too chaotic for me. I found this woven grass mats...

    star tortoise shell question

Are the lighter color in between the "square" of the star torts shell an indication of shell growth? Are they suppose to be softer? My torts shell is very hard but yesterday she tried to squeeze in between their hides, it's a clay plant pot. Now i see a little crack right where the lighter color...

I know lizards are harmless but do they carry anything bad that could affect a star tort? I have 2 lizards who constantly go to my torts pen, they are attracted to the insects roaming around the light. They also eat the ants around the pen.

    Used cypress mulch

I recently was able to finally find some cypress mulch. I poured it on their enclosure but my tort caught rns. Now she's doing ok and I have no idea what to do with the mulch. Should I throw it out since she used it when she had RNS or there is a way to 'disinfect' it? Like sunlight perhaps?

My pond constantly gets bloodworms and sometimes mosquitos. The pet store told me I could put some sword tail and mosquito fish with them. Are they safe if they ate them? Stars odd behavior or good behavior?

I had my star Yoda now for a year next month. She'd been the only one for 10 months. She's shy and eats very little. She also sleeps a lot she will not bask because it exposes her, in short she would just stay hidden as long as she could. She usually eats at night when everyone is asleep. Now...

    Substrates - need input :)

I've read massive amounts of care sheets about substrates but i've never really understood the purposes of it. Is it mainly for humidity or just so substrate can absorb their pee and so it will not smell and cling to their body? Is it for digging? Do stars really need to dig? I ask because...

I've had a star tort since last august 2010, She's a very lazy tort, sleeps all the time and rarely walks around. This behavior I heard is very normal for stars. Now I just got a new tort and he is very active. How do I know if his being active is a result of something other than him liking to...
