last year i had one female lay eggs in june and i was lucky to see when she was doing it. put heavy chicken wire around nest...for protection and also to contain babies when hatched. my main pen has large enough holes in fencing for a baby to get thru. anyway...come sept...nothing. finally about...
i saw one on 3/30 & 3/31 which were nicer days. nothing since. i'll be checking this coming fri & sat. looks like itll be almost 80 and night time temps above 50.
in nj...mine went down weeks ago and haven't seen them since. last offered food around beginning of oct and they all pretty much refused then. i left some vegetables and pellets and always water in pen. but i don't worry anymore. they know what they are doing. added last load of grass clippings...
im in NJ. now im speaking stricly about easterns (native) which is all i have....not quite sure if 3 toeds are the same...you can have box turtles as pets as long as you get them from a legal source....which is the tricky part...you can be gifted or trade for one by a nj permit holder but you...
not sure if this was really cool to do or not but don't think i bothered her. she always been friendly one.
amazing how she took hours to make the nest. a perfect little chamber...and then use legs to kick eggs forward for placement. it's crazy.
3 of 4 adult easterns made appearance yesterday in NJ. not really out wandering... but i cleared some leaves out of pen and saw them half buried on surface. almost 80 today and 80 tomorrow could get them going.
good point. they live inside there though... love it. might try that with substrate. they are flipping other places too. not just off the log. never really had this problem.
i didn't see any of mine up at all....but i gotta say this real warm feb has me a little concerned. i like when it's just cold straight thru winter and they wake up in spring. been crazy.
sometimes there's noting you can do. as long as your temps are up, lights on schedule (12hours+ on), and humidity good... i bet he'll snap out of it. i had some go months without eating. soak him often. maybe in some pedalyte sometimes if you are really concerned.
only food mine would ever...
im in NJ. mine usually go down in October. last year they came up in mid April i think. one time not until May. maybe i don't pay enough attention....but mine seem to be that once they are up, they stay up. i dont bother them or even really look for them until April. i always have water...
yes first try earthworms for sure. despite what i read....and have offered mine over and over..it's really the only thing my young ebt will eat. having said that...sometimes there is nothing you can do...seems like in winter months - jan & feb mostly...their instincts just kick in and they won't...
Im in NJ. First year year hatchlings I will bring inside...after that...outside full time. They basically are active late April - Late Oct. Half the year. They stop eating in Sept-ish and almost always dug in by Nov.
my pen is at like :40 of this video...i built a smaller pen inside big one for...
well i was guilted into bringing them inside for the winter. one got cut under eye pretty bad....not sure how. anyway didn't want him to hibernate like that so they are all in. i did gift one away....and may give away another 2. but so begins the soaks, heat and uv lamps, etc. ugh. they are all...
i'm letting these guys spend the winter outdoors in that separate enclosed pen. giving a couple away. hoping for the best. i've had a couple hatchlings inside for winter and i think they are tough to keep awake, eating, etc. just going to let nature do her thing this time. these guys have eaten...
