    First timer confused about hibernation

This was very helpful. I brought all three Western Box turtles in, with the intent of not letting them hibernate but they seem to have anyway. The two biggest ones went under in their outside enclosure right after Halloween. I brought them in this week and they are in the garage as we are now...

    Trading Goodies?

Prickly pear is on my babies feeding list (Western Ornate Box Turtle), but I can't find them anywhere in town. I would be interested in purchasing a plant, if legal and possible for their outdoor habitat next year.

    milo from south africa

If its, native, why not just let it live safely in your yard as long as their are no dogs, cats, etc. In certain areas of town where I live, turtles live in people's back yards and sometimes they move from one neighbor to another and everyone looks out for them. They do put food out and...

    Hello, from El Paso, TX.

She is much bigger now but advice well taken. I was always worried about the pool and that is why I have rocks all around so they can use them to straighten themselves out. I thought when I first got them, this is what they needed. Will replace per your suggestion.

    Hello, from El Paso, TX.

Thank you I need some hibernation help-to hibernate or not. I am inclined to just let them tell me what they need. That is what we have been doing all summer and it seems to be working!

    Hibernation?

I feel the same way, there is so much conflicting info out there on this issue. Just observing my turtles behavior, they seem to be slowing down a lot. I was thinking of just leaving them out during the day, as we tend to have mild winters here, however, we can also have freezes. I was...

    Hello, from El Paso, TX.

Hi, I adopted three desert box turtles from my daughter this past spring. She had just moved back home (as they all do from time to time when her roommate left). I walked into her room and there were three little prehistoric creatures looking up at me in a fish tank. (I guess she thought she...

Help Please - found hatchling baby box turtle

Thank you for taking care of her. For now, you could probably keep her in a med sized fish tank our a tub (those work nicely). Fix it up with reptile flooring and a little house, pool etc. I was proud of myself for taking on three! I would keep her in until next spring. See my experience as...
