I feed a varied diet to my torts but my exotic vet's recent patient made me think twice. The attached top photo shows the xray of urates on a sulcata that was fed a varied diet. The bottom photo shows the blockage is almost gone after a few weeks on all grass diet. My vet told me that the best...

    Your guesses please....

Hello. Please indulge me on this one. I just need your educated guesses. I know it is too early to tell the sex of my 5.5 inch tortoises, but when the day cones, it will be nice to know if differences in young tortoise tails have any relevance to their actual sex. Their tails have been...

    can i stop this pyramiding?

pardon the title..i've read Tom's posts about stopping it so i know i can. but i think in the case of Tom's leopards, he has PREVENTED it, not stopped any pyramiding since what he started with were hatchlings w/o any pyramiding. i do not have the opprtunity to start with perfect specimen, but...

    leopard food intake

from what i have read, appetite and growth rate vary a lot among leopards. i just want to know if one of my leopards' appetite is within the normal range. Since separating my leopards, I noticed that one of them is not feeding as well as the others, based on the amount of leftovers. I used to...

    Labyrinth/Maze Garden?

i have an idea of putting a maze in my leopard tortoise grazing pen. i think that with this, the torts will have to walk/explore more, rather than just making a beeline for whaterver they fancy. with daily observation, i have noted that they each have favorite spots, and they seldom walk the...

    Arachis pintoi?

Have any of you guys fed this to your torts? It's another ground cover that grows well here. Takes well to abuse so I'm planning to add it to my grazing pen. Not going to feed it as a staple, just want to add as part of a varied diet. Mine are leopards by the way.

    Yawning and Pink Tongue

hi guys. is yawning a bad sign? very recently, i've seen my leopards appear to be yawning. they open wide and hold it for half a second to 2 seconds...i don't think it's the mouth breathing that comes with RI, but i have not really seen that so, I am a bit concerned. i never saw them yawn...

    Peperomia pellucida

anybody here has an idea if these are ok for leopards? it's non-toxic to humans, sometimes eaten as a salad in southeast asia. it sprouts naturally in my outdoor grazing pen. i do not want to remove anything that can add variety to a natural diet, but i do not want to risk it either. the reason...

    Missing layer of carapace

Hi guys. In the list of things to check when getting a new tortoise, it says don't get one with any shell damage/injury. Does this include old injuries or just recent ones? The reason I ask is I am going to get one more. Available options are 4 inches or 3 inches...the 3 inch would fit nicely...

    Question about weight

Hi guys, I recently pruchased two leopards from a local reptile importer. I chose the best looking(healthwise) and most active in the bunch. Both are 3 inchers, the other is 130 grams, but the other is only 95 grams. Is 95 underwieght? The light one appears healthy, eats rather well for a...
