I don't know if it's natural for all tortoises to do this, or if it's just my redfoot...but Mosey my redfoot does not like to go #2 in his cage. So he holds it until i bring him out which isn't a problem for me. What is a problem is he becomes constipated, so i've been feeding him fiber 1 bars...
