When will "buddy" tortoises need to be separated?

I had two buddies (in my profile pic) that I never saw fight or aggravate one another. Ever. Then one day I moved them both out of their enclosure to graze while cleaning. Holy wow, one was light as a feather, the other hefty. SOMEbody was running off the othe from the food. I rehomed one to a...

    Russian tortoise potentially hurt?

I'm tearing up just reading this - just here to send a big fat comforting hug to you. Ugh I know that sick, gutting feeling of remorse from mistakes I've made (uh... I feel bad accidentally wrecking a little spider's perfect web) But you are NOT a horrid tortoise parent! They've survived worse...

Please help me (tortoise subdued, poor appetite)

agree, that they're solo dwellers. I had to gift my second Hermann's to a friend because the one would run off the other from the food. It was only evident after I picked them up and noticed the marked difference in weight.

Removing super glue from Russian tortoise shell?

ugh!! that idiot girl! maybe an innocuous oil of some kind will soften the glue. Olive oil? Lavender oil? Nail salons use acetone to remove fake nails. It's super harsh though :( All I know is if I ever got superglue on my fingers it eventually wore off from the oils in my hands. Praying the...

    I just cant decide!

Hi! I cannot gush enough about my experince with Hermann's! That they don't dig deeply at all, they don't get too big (8-10"), they only eat vegetation, are very friendly, and are easy keepers. I've had my male Hermann's for 8 years (I had two initially, but gave the other male to a friend...

Best outdoor tortoise for south Georgia?

From sunny, muggy west coast of Florida: I highly recommend Hermann's as they're sweet natured, they stay small (and portable if you're wintering them elsewhere) they don't tunnel out, and they're very easy to care for, especially since you have this forum as a resource. Bonus: their diet of...

    Daytime turnout for Tortellini

Florida Zone 9.5. My guy has lived outdoors in the 4' x 15' box for 7+ years. Though we've let him out with supervision, we expanded his world some weeks ago, finally! We put him back in the box (it goes off to the left of photo. it's covered, and has a couple lean-tos in the middle and end...
