    Planting outdoor enclosure

Thank you for the suggestions. I think the rose moss or sedum is the kind of idea I was looking for. He loves to climb over the hide and I would hate to take that away from him. Just needed something that would secure the dirt up there. Moss would be perfect. Now to see if I can find it around...

    Planting outdoor enclosure

Izzy's outdoor enclosure is done and he loves it. I have a terracotta pot hide in there that is buried under a mound of dirt. Izzy loves to crawl over it. He is knocking off all the dirt that was put there to keep the hide cool. Is there something I can plant on top of the hide to keep the dirt...

    Izzy's Playground

We will be putting a hinged top on it made with hardware cloth. Izzy sleeps inside at night but I would still feel safer with it covered. We need to make a divider so I can plant my seed mix and keep him away from it until it grows. I already have some of the seed mix planted in containers and...

    Izzy's Playground

Well it took 8 hours today but, Izzy's playground is almost complete. I have the seed mix from Carolina Pet to plant yet, and need to finish leveling and burying the water dish. Izz will be spending his days outside and his nights indoors. There are 12 by 12 inch pavers buried under the dirt...

    Where to begin outdoor enclosure

Thanks everyone for the input. Other than a few stray cats or bunny rabbits we really have no predators were I live. I think we will go with the pavers on the inside edge and put a top of hardware cloth over the enclosure.

    Where to begin outdoor enclosure

We are ready to start an outdoor enclosure for Izzy our Russian male. Have a few questions so I thought I'd consult the experts here. Do we need to bury something around the perimeter ? What would you suggest it be, wood, metal, some sort of plastic ? We were told that if we put up two rows...

He is about 4 inches from front of shell to the back. I was so hard to measure him he would not hold still.

    ID help please

Ok all we know is Izzy is a tustudo species. I thought he was an Ibera but he has no spurs that I can see. I am almost positive he is a male. Can anyone help us out and give us a sub species please and let me know if he is indeed a male ? Whatever he is he is such a cutie pie.

    Seed Mix

We are putting some in the inside enclosure, and I bought 4 under the bed large storage boxes last night and planted them for the outside enclosure. That way I can switch them out when he has grazed them down. Was wondering what I could use for the inside seeds that would be low enough he could...

    Seed Mix

We are so excited !! My order from Carolina Pet came yesterday. Now to get it planted. I also ordered a pound of cactus ( optuntia ). We are going to try to root that also. Can't wait to see it sprout. No more guessing if it's safe for Izzy to eat. Does anyone have any tips for sprouting the...

    Outdoor enclosure question

Thank you Leigti for the suggestion. I had actualy thought of something like that. I have heard of people using chicken wire but I was afraid he would get his legs caught in it if he dug down far enough to reach it.

    Outdoor enclosure question

We will be starting the outdoor enclosure for Izzy this week end. My question is how far down should we bury the sides so she / he can't dig out of it ? Do we have to bury any thing at all, or if we make the sides 8 inches thick would she / he be able to dig out of it ? Thinking of using...

We are working on an outside enclosure now for Izzy when the weather permits here in Pennsylvania. Also in the process of building a large tortoise table for when conditions are not so good. For now she / he is housed in a 40 gallon long critter keeper. Izzy has been doing awesome. We have had...

We ( hubby and I ) are new owners of a greek tortoise. We have named her / him Izzy. Got that name because we don't know,........ Izzy a girl, or Izzy a boy. We know about keeping other reptiles. We currently have a red eared slider and a corn snake. We have had both for four years or so. I did...
