Adopted a sully he is sick and won't eat..tips

I adopted this 2-4 year old sulcata from a "tortoise rescue" well they seem to be more of a tortoise hospice after adopting this poor guy. He has a bad case of nose bubbles and watery eyes with a wheezy gasp. I have taken him to the vet and we are doing shots every three days. I have made an...

    Craigslist tortoises in poor shape

Its sad when I see people asking hundreds of dollars for torts in terrible health! See below http://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/pet/4625225310.html Hoping someone here is nearby and able to provide them a good home, I would if I had the money and space. This person has 6 different torts for sale...

Small outdoor enclosure build guide (with pictures)

Here is an updated picture. Link with video Once the grass grows in I plan to put him out there. I have a thermostat and ceramic heat bulb with lamp coming and I plan to put it over the burrow I made to provide heat since it isn't very deep or well insulated to keep temps up during the...

    Control cage from remote

Probably $100 worth of parts. But you will need to learn how to make it and for program it. Some people have similar projects and allow u to copy their code and give instructions.

    Control cage from remote

Your best bet is to learn about arduino micro controllers. They would allow you to use thermometers to monitor the temps and relays to control heating devices. The micro controller has a chip that you can add internet access to control it all remotely. There are people that do this to monitor...

    Outdoor hide temp

depends on the thermostat, most of them just maintain a certain temp when turned on, but you would probably want it to be ~75 degrees in the summer so the tort can run to it to cool off. Then only start heating up at night to keep the tort warm. If you have a 90 degree summer temp outside the...

    Outdoor hide temp

if you have a thermostat to regulate the heat inside the hide then set it to 80-85 degrees and maybe have it on a timer so it only regulates at night.

Small outdoor enclosure build guide (with pictures)

Hey turtle Pete I took your idea and expanded it! Almost done! Thanks for the how to. I am really concerned about rain because it comes down like a monsoon and I'm sure it will flood or get very soggy. I plan to combat this by putting gravel or small rocks along the border and soil in the...

Small outdoor enclosure build guide (with pictures)

question: I really want to put my young Sulcata outside using something like this. my only concern is that I live in Florida and the rain can be pretty harsh. How would you combat hard rain with your enclosure idea?

    Outdoor enclosure idea rough sketch

Sounds like that is the best plan Yvonne. Do you think a partially underground burrow will suffice in Florida weather? One that I can dig 2 feet down and then a safe stone cover with dirt mound over top? This would be to minimize cave ins. Or something possibly like Tom's underground bunker...

    Outdoor enclosure idea rough sketch

Thanks for the tips. My idea behind this is that torts are born and live outside their whole lives in the wild. I want to mimic that as much as possible, but with some safety and security measures in place. Such as adding a CHE or heating element for cold nights, and a barrier of sorts from...

    Outdoor enclosure idea rough sketch

The rescue I bought it from said he keeps all of his torts out side even the hatchlings. I couldn't tell from his pictures but I believe he uses a similar design as I have listed. These torts are born in the wild and live in these conditions just fine. Providing a heat source at night should...
