Thanks! This forum has taught me a lot...caring for a tortoise was a little more involved than I thought when I got her, and there are still things to learn and improve on. For one, need a bigger enclosure. We are house hunting now, and I hope to get her a big outdoor enclosure when we but a house.
We've had our little Russian for 1 year! She was about 1 oz when we got her and now she weighs in at 8! She was supposed to be a classroom pet, but I fell in love and wanted her at home. She visits school every once in a while.
Gosh, the things I learn on here! When I first got my RT a month ago I was noticing these hard white things showing up in the substrate. I figured out it was the urine dried out. So since then, I've been soaking my little guy more and watching the humidity better. ( not because of that, I...
I got my first Russian tortoise one month ago today. I've learned so much from all of you this past month, that I decided to show our 1 month pictures (tee hee). I've read a little about sexing a tortoise, and I think mine is a she (there is a pucker on the tail, not a slit) although it is still...
Hello! My sister married into a family from Cyprus and has been there many times! My niece was baptized there! I hope to visit someday, I live in Southern California now.
Yay! I'm not the only one! I took a video of my RT eating last night. Lol! My husband sees me on my phone, reading, and says "are you reading the turtle nerd forum again?" Yes, yes I am!
Mine buries himself too (actually, I think it is female after reading how to identify, but that is another thread). My humidity is also low, but I thought russian's needed it low. What should the humidity be for a Russian tortoise? My hot side gets up to 90 during the day, the cool side never...
My baby Russian has had soft feces for the past couple of days when that hasn't been the norm. I had been feeding him mostly kale and recently found out I shouldn't, so now it's been dandelion greens, romaine lettuce, and sometimes some grated carrots. Could that cause soft feces? I've also...
Well, I have a 10 year old cat, so I want the enclosure covered. I wonder if there is a way to keep him safe but not block his UV light?
The cool side stays around 70 degrees and the warm side is at 90. I had read somewhere that Russians need a dry environment. Is that not true? I was going to...
Yeah, I noticed him in a corner with his legs moving like he was trying to climb through the glass...so I was going to put some duct tape at least in the corners for now. My son loves him, which is good because spike may outlive me. Lol
