    The End Of Pyramiding

You are going to the other end of the spectrum. I don't think I've ever seen where tortoise bone is brittle but I bet it does occur. In my experience... pyramiding is not an indication of ill health or improper development.

    The End Of Pyramiding

I've seen many pyramided shells where the cross section was dense. This is how I can state that pyramiding is not a sign of MBD.

    The End Of Pyramiding

Just one little important correction... pyramided bone is not always porous... which is a sign of MBD. A pyramided tortoise does not always have MBD. Also... a humid environment benefits ALL tortoises regardless of size.

new to egyptian tortoises, is it healthy and subspecies/location please?

I'm curious as to where the OP is located? That is a very nice WC Egyptian. As far as I know there is only one species. They are a desert animal but do benefit from a humid hide. If you are interested... I have some notes I can send you. email me at [email protected]

    Wild Caught Yellow-Foot Tortoise

I really don't care... but for the others who keep redfoots and yellowfoots... can you clarify what you just said? The ID of the RF has not been answered without a clear photo of the head. Then you agree... origin is unknown.

    Wild Caught Yellow-Foot Tortoise

Pyramiding is not bad... it is unappealing to people due to the anal retentive tortoises keeper. Your tortoise is great looking healthwise. No... the scutes should be flat.

    Meet the new little Egyptian

I'd like to know where it came from. My first ones went to the Seattle Zoo... they are now over represented... anyway... Do yourself a favor... i know it sounds like a commercial... get it on Mazuri tortoise diet. Egyptians are extremely prone to renal failure. If you are not careful...

    Wild Caught Yellow-Foot Tortoise

What'd I miss? It is not wild caught. Carl... is it a RF... and... why? Second question... if they are being raised in their native habitat... even with the most horrid diet... they would not look like that. One of us is missing something.

    Wild Caught Yellow-Foot Tortoise

I've never seen a wild caught Colombian that was even slightly pyramided. How do you 'know' it is a colombian RF... let alone farm raised? [hr] It's probably not wild caught. It probably is a Redfoot but a clear photo of the head would make it relatively easy to tell.
