Sorry to hear about your tortoise! I don't understand why a vitamin injection was given - this usually indicates a bad vet. Vitamin injections should 90% of the time not be given to reptiles, as they can overdose on it instead of excrete the excess like mammals. Generally they make things worse...
redfoots can do well in groups, I would ask them to specify the sex ratio. If they have a pack of all males I'd pass....but a good ratio is like, 3 female 1 male. And space helps a lot for "packs" of tortoises. It helps so that if they are stressed they can get away from a male, for example...
I'd take the tail off that shrimp next time you feed them that, just in case. My tort loves shrimp and papaya, but I'd say her favs are mango, tuna, boiled chicken, butternut squash, cactus fruit when in season, clover and arugula. just remember, everything in moderation. blueberries are fine...

I buy my lights from them, they ship fast and the guy that owns the shop is very helpful.
Here are some pictures of Pickle and their enclosure (uploading these pics to this thread in particular is a huge pain in the butt!! Not sure if it's only for Adoptions but I don't remember it being this difficult):
Her setup is not ideal so I would suggest something like a plastic bin with...
Agreed. We won't just give them to anybody.
There is no money involved, we just need to verify they are going to a good home.
I don't think shipping is an option, ideally somewhere in MA would be great, or even border states depending.
I asked for photos of the tort and their enclosure, still...
A friend of a friend is looking to rehome her daughters redfoot Pickle and I was the nearest tortoise lady, She is in northern MA. Basically her daughter is too young to take care of the animal and they are looking for the best home possible.
I don't know much about the enclosure or general...
2nd on the MBD so just make sure they get adequate UV/sunlight and change the bulbs regularly to ensure proper output. Tube UV bulbs tend to last longer and redfoots don't like harsh light or basking spots anyway. Cover open top with tin foil to keep in moisture and humidity. get thermostat to...
Dump the water down the toilet and use dawn dish soap and scrub the whole bin down with a brush. I have a massive utility sink since going outside all year round isn't really the best option for me due to snow/cold, and my hose is usually shut off from water
you are right and the foods you are feeding (dandelions, collards, turnip) are all high in oxalates I believe so they are good once a week ish but too much can cause kidney stones. Basically everything in moderation and you are golden.
I also bought some cactus powder from Kapidolo Farms and I...
Ive never heard of redfoots eating timothy hay, I don't think its harmful in any way...but I would keep away from feeding coconut. I don't have any concrete evidence it's bad but its awfully oily/fatty and I wouldn't risk it.
Yeah I mean most torts do enjoy basking but not this species. Mine pretty much avoids bright light all the time and sits in her hides. I am in the same boat for winter but I've had her for about 10 years and covering the enclosure did the trick to keep temp and humidity up all the time
I had a humidifier for a little bit but decided not to use it anymore as some say it causes respiratory infections. I have also had a sprinkler system in there which was more successful, but I think what helps the most is closing off the moisture in the enclosure. Can you cover the open mesh...
