It's worth a try, but i will advise that his stuff does not go away easily and the damage has been done to any plants it has wrapped around. Like a lot of ivy type stuff, torching is one of the more effective methods but I understand that is not always practical. Remove as much as you can and...
My 9 month old RF has not been interested much in any 'stationary' protein sources as of yet (eggs, cat food, chicken, etc), but he is pretty ravenous about any moving food source like worms or snails.
N2torts shared a nice reading list in this thread: http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/never-one-good-book-too-many.65355/#post-619484
There are some good redfoot/south american tort ones on there.
My wife and I visited the St. Louis zoo on Friday and did their behind the scenes tour with their Aldabras. It was a lot of fun getting to be Aldabraman for a little bit! It is a really great zoo and the keeper was very knowledgeable and informed, more so than any other zoo I have visited. I...
The leaves actually look more like wild violet to me. It should be safe to feed, but Id feel better getting another members opinion before offering it.
Do you have a picture of the rest of the plant? It looks like the flower of creeping charlie/glechoma hederacea but without the leaves, thats only a guess. If it is, it is not safe to feed.
It went from cold to very warm in a hurry here in Chicago and I was able to take my Redfoot outside for the first time. We are also in our new house in the suburbs now on a 39,000 sq ft lot, which has a lot of promise for our Charlie's future!
We are really excited for this summer because the...
I think you mentioned in another thread you are getting a redfoot? An open enclosure like that tends to be very difficult to maintain the proper humidity that redfoots require. You may want to look into adding a cover of some sort and monitor your humidity.
Also, it looks like the bulb in your...
Im not an expert by any means, so hopefully others will chime in with other input, but you should try to widen the variety of the greens you are feeding, as the ones you mentioned are high in oxalic acid and are better off as a varied diet. You want the greens to make up most of the diet, with...
In Illinois, opuntia humifusa is native and survives our winters. I have it in my yard as a perennial. It is not truly spineless, but I don't know of many that really are. It has a pretty wide natural range, including the east coast and this looks to be some.
That is a great looking enclosure, you did a really nice job. I especially like those brackets you used to allow for the upper frame to sit on there. One lucky tort!
I was offered this redfoot from a friend of a coworker who got it for their daughter who is not holding up 'her end of the deal' care-wise.
The current owners got it at a reptile show less than a year ago, so their estimation about age is a year old. They claim to have been using a UVB bulb...
This morning's weigh in crossed the 100g mark, and I thought I would see how you all think my Redfoot, Darwin, is doing. 102.7g was the actual weight, and he has been gaining a few grams every week since I began weighing him at about 72g. His SCL was 3.25" a couple weeks ago. He is approximately...
