Leo with a personality... and an appetite

Here is Hemi a few weeks ago. He was watching me put his breakfast together while he soaked. Offered him a piece and he climbed right up on the inside rim or the container. They are crazy smart! Youtube video.. 32 seconds long.

Update on my first tortoise: Hemi

The short box was the one I just replaced. He was in this from when I got him in December up until 2 weeks ago. The new (Have not replaced moss/fake leaves yet.. He liked to use those as a bathroom whenever he could... pretty nastay): staring contests between Hemi and Bentley happen often...

Update on my first tortoise: Hemi

I thought it seemed like he was growing at a quick rate as well compared to some of the pics I've seen on here of others. I keep him in a large storage type bin and the lights were kept about 8 inches from his shell, per my exotic vet that I work with, who happens to be listed on the list...

    Eeep! New Growth!

So little Hemi here if my first tortoise I've ever had. Although I work at an exotic vet, I don't quite get to experience the changes that these guys go through. Leopards aren't too popular compared to the sulcatas/desert tortoises here in Arizona. With that, I'm excited to share this photo...

First Tortoise - 2nd Attempt at Enclosure

So as my other post stated, this little leo is my first tortoise. He is roughly 1 month old and I've had him since Wednesday. His first enclosure was a cement tub with rabbit pellets, some hides, and a water dish, I later put in a humid hide but realized that wasn't enough. So this is what I...

    My First Tortoise!

After reading up more, I'm thinking about changing up my set up for my little guy. I currently have him in a cement tub (as some of you may know this tub has no type of covering and is about 6 1/2 inches deep. I have him on rabbit pellets (tom says thats a no no). After having my tort in there...

    My First Tortoise!

Thanks! Tom's post is definitely helpful! I have him in a cement tub right now with UVB and heat lamps on one side and a cool side on the other. I do have a hide on both sides, and the one on the heated side is where I have been misting and keeping it humid. I read about that on TortoiseYard I...

    My First Tortoise!

So I finally caved and got myself my first tortoise. Considering I work at an exotic vet office I just had to get one :P I picked this little guy up from ATC. He still doesn't have a name yet though. Here's a picture of him! He's a babcocki leopard.

Leopard Hatchling Enclosure - HELP :)

Well, not quite from what I've read. Sulcata's habitat can be dry.. and leo's need some humidity. Therefore I don't see how their habitat can be the same.

Leopard Hatchling Enclosure - HELP :)

Hello, I've been doing some research on Leopard tortoises for quite some time and I will soon be getting my first hatchling. I've never owned a tortoise before. The only reptile I had were two crested geckos about 1 year ago. I work for a very popular veterinarian who specializes in...
