    My Russian tortoise in SF

Thanks! That’s a good looking tortoise you got. Can’t wait for mine to get up to that size. I’m definitely nervous but have done so much reading and find comfort in everyone else success in the process. Also hoping to use the time she is down to remodel and grow in her enclosure!

    My Russian tortoise in SF

Greetings from San Francisco, California! My name is John and this is Kevin, a captive-bred Russian tortoise. I got her in March 2021 from Randy at TortStork as a month old, temperature-sexed female. She has since put on over 300 grams and still growing! I've kept various reptiles and amphibians...

Building your own Expanded PVC Enclosed Chamber – For Beginners

Such a great write up, thanks Sterant! Just cause I am always curious about material prices when I see builds like this, as I’m sure many are, I figured I’d share the quote I just got. Here in San Francisco in July 2022, it’ll cost me $288+tax for a 4’x8’ sheet of 1/2” EPVC. That’s just the...

FLEX SEAL uses for tortoise keeping

Is the spray-on flex seal also non-toxic? Considering using it to seal the bottom of a zoomed tortoise house for hatchlings. Figured I could get a cleaner, more even job with the spray-on type.

    New to Tortoises! Super excited!

Hey guys, just thought of some more questions! 1) So from my reading, I don't need a UVB bulb if I can get my tortoise out in the sun for 20 minutes a day? I can still get a UVB bulb but if I can save a couple bucks that would be great. 2) If I plan on planting the heck out of their enclosure...

    New to Tortoises! Super excited!

Wow! That was a LOT to read Tom! There were a lot of new things that I learned from all that reading, one of which is to never ever sit in front of the computer for more than two hours :P I definitely have a better idea of my plans now though.

Thanks for the help Tom, greatly appreciated! I am definitely not gonna use an open top now, just sounds like its not gonna work out at all. I'll be sure to read those threads, but it's time for a nap :) Thanks again Tom and all that helped!

    New to Tortoises! Super excited!

Ya, I was thinking of something similar to that. Like build a "cage" or frame around it and put some tarp over around it and hang the lights off the frame. But one thing I worry is the temperature getting to high because our house can get up to 85 degrees and with the added heat lamps and such...

    New to Tortoises! Super excited!

Hey, thanks for the help! I looked at the closed chamber and there are things I like and dislike about it. The idea that it keeps humidity up is awesome, keeping Dart Frogs, I know humidity is almost impossible to keep up here. However, I don't really like that it doesn't have the super easy...
