A Lost Tortoise Story to Brighten Your Day

Thanks everyone. On top of that, the man who found vlad had actually taken him to the park and let him go. He only saw my sign ON HIS WAY HOME from the park. He then went back to the park, searched bushes, and eventually found him...again. Could not be more grateful to this kind human who went...

A Lost Tortoise Story to Brighten Your Day

My Russian Vladimir amazingly escaped from his outdoor pen the other day. As you can all imagine I was both shocked and deeply saddened. I searched as much as I could but him being only 10 inches it felt useless. I also live right next to a huge sump that he would always try to get into when I...

    Outdoor substrate for Russian

Thanks a lot. Do u see any potential problems with my tarp idea? I figure it's a good way to control the substrate while also preventing any escape via digging.

    Outdoor substrate for Russian

Hi all, just starting building an outdoor enclosure for my russian, Vladimir. I don't want to use the ground in my backyard because the grass grows extremely quick and it will be difficult to maintain. Plus I'm afraid of dampness problems. My plan is to dig down a couple inches or so and place a...

    Fire Safety, URGENT

I will definitely try that, is a normal light bulb strong enough to raise the temp by 10-15 degrees tho? Suppose I could always use two side to side.

    Fire Safety, URGENT

I've only had him for a year. He's probably not more than 2-2.5 years old. Is hibernating him a difficult process? He's my first RT so I'm fairly new to husbandry.

    Fire Safety, URGENT

My father will not let me house my RT vladimir bc he thinks the lamps are too much of a fire hazard. It is quite upsetting thinking I have to get rid of vlad, so as one last effort I ask, if their anyway to house a RT without the use of heat lamps? I can raise the thermostat in the basement...

    Russian Tort Poop

My RT's poop has been alittle less firm lately, not very watery but definitely less firm. Also he seems to be pooping more often. He is eating fine and if anything seems to be hungry more often than usual. Haven't seen any signs of lethargy or anything like that. His diet is a varied...

    New Member and Humidity Question

Thanks all, I'm thinking a dehumidifier is the best choice. Any suggestions? I would preferably not have to spend upwards of $250 to dehumidify the whole room. Will a mini dehumidifier placed directly in his enclosure do the job?

    New Member and Humidity Question

New member but have had my RT Vladimir for about 10 months now. I recently upgraded his living arrangements as winter is approaching (I live in NY) and he won't be able to get any time outside. I made an enclosure out of an old bookcase (quite large, probably 10x5) and so far so good. Only...
