I bought the Practical Reptile Keeping magazine this month and it came with a book on tortoises, there was an article on training them in there so it can definately be done!

    Neo's learnt his name!

I'm chuffed to bits! Neo was wondering around the living room while I got his soaking tub ready after he'd spent an hour under a UV light, and he started heading into the kitchen. But noo! The kitchen is COLD!! I had my hands full in the moment so I couldn't run and grab him, so in desperation...

For Those Who Have a Young Sulcata...

My little sulcata Neo’s been eating like a horse! He doesn’t seem to keen on grass, but I offer it every day, and he has a selection of dandelion, clover, plantain, grape leaves, carrots, cabbage, romaine lettuce, watercress, and prickly pear cactus on occasion :) He has a cuttlebone to...

Trying to beat the English weather!

Thanks guys :) Neo's around a year and a half old, and about 5.5inches long. I've ended up getting a tupperware lid on top of a thick, floded beach towel. He doesnt seem to have made a mess with it, then I came home from work and tripped over it! I won't let him go outside unless it's over 80 in...

Trying to beat the English weather!

It's been a beautiful day out today so he's spent a few hours outside helping the rabbits mow the lawn today! He's back inside now, and it's 85.8 degrees in here and humid as anything! He's loving it... Me? Not so much!

Trying to beat the English weather!

Hi all! When I got my sully Neo, a heat wave had just started here in England, and it's lasted a good three weeks or so, leading to one happy tortoise living outside! He's had the greenhouse to himself, with the door and window wide open, regular hosings down and lots of supervised romping on...

    Am I doing this right?!

Tell me about it! My dad's been saying he wants to cut it and I've been telling him not to because I won't be able to chop any for Neo and my rabbits! D:

    Am I doing this right?!

I bought and Exo Terra digital thermometer today and I am happy to say that Neo's indoor box is 71.3 degrees in the main section, and 92.8 in the hide box! So there's no need to bunk him with the beardies, and I can now make sure he's only outside when it's warm enough! :D

    Am I doing this right?!

The only place in my house I knwo for sure is 80 is my two bearded dragon tanks, would he be alright in there until I can get his heat bulb sorted out? At work they keep two hermanns tortoises with a beardie and they get on just fine. I know it would be dry in there, but there is a water bowl...

    Am I doing this right?!

At night he has a heat mat on one side of his box, the house boiler is also in my room so it stays warm in here all the time. I've read your links, Tom, and I think you're amazing! Before I had him I know he spent most days outside, and was just kept at room temperature when inside, so is it...

    Am I doing this right?!

Hi guys! I've had my sulcata Neo for 4 days now. He's around 18 months old, 5.5in and 500g, with some slight pyramiding. I posted all about his temporary housing and the plans for his permenent housing over in the introductions section. Anyway, when I woke up this morning to say hello to Neo...

Hi! Just got my first Tortoise!

Thank you for the welcome! I just weighed and measured him/her, and s/he's 5.5 inches, weighing 500g. Is that a healthy size and weight for his/her age? The previous owner told me s/he had a bit of a calcium deficiency, which is why I got him/her the powder. Also, is there any way at this stage...

Hi! Just got my first Tortoise!

Hello everybody! I'm Tash, from the UK, and I'm so excited to be here! I work for a mobile zoo and being there has really gotten me into keeping a lot of exotic animals, but I'll stick to the tortoise side of it! At work I look after 2 hermanns, 2 horsefields, 2 greeks, and one rather large...
