I have had my baby t since late June (he hatched late May) and I have been caring for him the same way the entire time. However this morning when I picked him up to bring him outside I noticed he did not want to open one of his eyes. I Immediately soaked him and ran some warm water on his face...
So I was so excited to find this local reptile store and took my boys there this weekend to check things out. I was looking to see if they had torts and if so was going to keep them in mind for future tort purchases, but is what I found made me sad. They have many reptiles and it appeared they...
Wondering if anyone could tell me the difference between the marinated and Russian torts? I was in a pet store this week end and the had some marinated hatchlings in with Russians.. This worries me a bit but I will explain that more in a different thread.
Updated the t homes today. Mr t needed more dirt to help keep him humid and warm at night. Baby t needed more so he could bury himself. And lastly I finally bought a mister attachment to my drip system so their outside garden stays moist. No better way to spend a Sunday then playing with torts!
I have had my torts for three months now and they seem to be doing great. Growth charts are below and here are a few pics. Any feed back on what you see here on the looks and size of them ?
Mr T - somewhere between 3-10 years old so I guesstimate him at 5.
July - 308g and 4 1/4" long...
Went to the local zoo today and was so happy when my 5 year old was excited to hang out and watch the torts for a while. He also has learned so much from watching me care for my two Russians. For example when the little guy was bobbing his head, he was like mommy that baby is angry - we...
So as I learn more and more about torts and turtles in general I have an desire to go visit places where these are prevalent. Anyone been to the Galápagos Islands? It looks amazing and has both torts and sea turtles. Ay other great places in this world to go where these are known to be?
Just...
Had such a bad day today with work that I stopped an hour early and sat in my back watching my peaceful torts roam around their garden. Ahhhh this is what life is about.
Baby T so happy to be outside, immediately starts looking for Mr T :)

I have two indoor enclosures as I have two Russians torts. I love having real plants in them to nibble but am having a hard time keeping them alive with the heat and humidity levels required. Anyone have luck keeping plants alive?

So since having my torts for just over a month I have just been calling them Mr T and Baby T. I'm thinking now that I am setting in with them I need "real names".
I am thinking Morla from "The Never Ending Story" for baby T as its pretty unisex and I won't be worried about changing it later...
Having my torts only since may 27th not only have I leaned a lot about Russian torts but about a new passion - tortoises anything. As I learn I am create better spaces for my two little guys. Here are a few pics of the most recent remodels :). Please provide input as that's how I've come this...
Planted some new goodies today for Mr T while he was out trying to escape from his garden - wonder if he will ever give up?? Anyway he likes his new wheat grass that's for sure.

So I have a great outdoor space for my Russian Tort, however he is like everyone said a great escape artist! I am looking for ideas that are appealing to the eye since it is in the main part of my yard and tall enough for him to not escape from. Currently I have bricks liked up to about 18"...
So I have been trying hard to ensure I plant only safe to eat plants in the outdoor space, but am getting mixed information. I am reading here many types of plants as safe to use but when I look them up on the tortoise table website they are not safe. Does it depend on the type of tort?
How long will this area stay soft on a hatchling? Mine is about a month old and pretty flexible/soft. How much ad how often should I be giving it calcium supplements and should it be with or without d3? I want to ensure I am taking the best possible care of my little guy and this really...
Guess everyone in the house likes Brussels sprouts but me. At least they get eaten!
My kitty Bella sneaking in the forbidden garden and mr t not so happy about that.
