    Injured wild anole

Hi everyone! I thought you'd might like an update. Last November, I found an anole on my patio with her two left legs crushed. You guys gave me great advice and encouraged me to keep her. 1 year later, her injuries healed nicely. She is mobile (not enough for the wild, though). She...

    Nicknames

Redfoot Cortana is nicknamed Corey just in case she is a boy. Also she is often referenced as a dinosaur, rather than a tortoise. "Be careful there is a dinosaur in the sink." For those that ever went to homestarrunner.com ...StrongBad drew a ridiculous dragon named Trogdor with its own theme...

    Injured wild anole

EILEEN is doing well! Her front leg has come off. Both limbs are healing with no discernible issues. She is still learning about her abilities and disabilities. I am glad to provide a safe place for her to do so. Thanks for the lizard love everyone!

    Injured wild anole

Some time late this morning her back leg came off. She has been resting today in various places in the cage, not eating (I'm not sure how soon they eat after a shed?), but does not seem too distressed by her loss. I saw no blood either. It makes me nervous that it came off this soon, but nothing...

    Injured wild anole

Hi Leigti, I'm hoping that the injured legs will eventually just come off. The back leg is the better looking of the two. There is a very clear delineation of dead to living flesh and a stump is forming around the end of living flesh. That stump looks like it will eventually knock off the dead...

    Injured wild anole

The still unnamed anole completed her first shed in captivity today!! I am so excited! I feel very confident in her future life, now that I see her thriving and growing enough to shed. It only took her this morning really, and she had no trouble with her injured appendages. During her shed...

    Injured wild anole

Thanks Yellow Turtle! Down here we just call them Green Anoles. Some even call them Chameleons or American Chameleons because they change from green to brown, but they aren't true Chameleons. They can regrow tails; the first thing I looked up was whether they could regrow other appendages, but...

    Injured wild anole

Prairie mom, I understand your disclaimers and I also agree with you. It's interesting that you've seen similar predicaments in mammals (a foot, wow!). I see a clear line of dead/living as well. AmRoKo, I haven't seen her turn blue, but there is a patch near her neck that is either slow to turn...

    Injured wild anole

I agree with everyone's thoughts that this a crushing injury -- door, window, car. The wounds aren't fresh. Thanks Prairiemom on your thoughts that the limbs will eventually come off on their own. I think so too. I posted on an anole forum and they wanted me to take him to the vet for...

    Injured wild anole

Thanks for the advice and well wishes everyone! I've seen 3 legged anoles doing well in the wild, but I think you're right AmRoKo -- missing two limbs on one side is just not going to cut it in the wild. I'm going to keep him warm, safe, and fed for a few days. I have to determine whether...

    Injured wild anole

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FULL SIZE IMAGE IS FAIRLY GRAPHIC! Hi, I'm looking for some advice. I live in SE Georgia. This morning on my patio, I thought I saw a dead green anole in a very open basking spot. It was about 70 degrees out. I disturbed it and found out it was still alive, but didn't run...

Any update on using vinegar as a regular preventative? How's it working for you? I'm in the process of troubleshooting my own new enclosure...

Distance or species as decision for 10.0 vs 5.0?

Since I already have a fixture that holds 18" tubes, I may just buy a shorter (say 30") fixture (and use the 5.0 HO -- thanks for the tip!) and combine the two. That will save $20 and not waste my old fixture. Hmm...

Ah yes, 48 inches is 4 ft. I'm going to go sit in a corner and finish my coffee now...

Distance or species as decision for 10.0 vs 5.0?

Wow, two feet of light! I'd say that's overkill, but truth is, it's been too cold to have her out on the porch lately. We'll be moving in 6 months and she'll have an outdoor pen, but if that's what she needs, that's what she needs.

    escaping tortoise

After you've closed out their escape routes, make sure they have a spot in their enclosure that's similar to under the fridge -- snug and warm!
