My tortoises are all good eaters. Haha. Anyone have any good ideas for landscaping plants that are tortoise safe but that they won't devour the second they're planted? Lol
No, our house is on a corner, so our side yard is parallel with the street. This wouldn't be a problem if the neighbors driveway wasn't on that street. We have to have a 15 ft setback from our property line for visibility.
Big dilemma here. We recently purchased a home. We had the intention of expanding our side yard to build an awesome tortoise enclosure for our 2:4 group of Russians. When we first looked into it, this was possible. After further exploration and talking to our city planning department, it appears...
Sorry for the late reply! Yvonne, that would be great if you could take it. I live in Turlock, but drive down to Clovis on occasion. I'll pm you with more details once get more info from my friend.
My friend is looking for a home for a relatives tortoise. We both weren't sure about the species but it looks like a gopher tortoise? We live in California. Is this species protected? Not sure how to go about finding a new home for her tortoise.
Thanks! I'll take this conversation over to the North American tortoise section. I need to learn some more about this species so I can help her rehome it.
I was wondering what type of plant it is. It has a very shallow root though. I'll have to get a closeup of it. There is definitely some chia growing underneath the Amazon, as well as some clover.
So I planted my seed mix a couple months ago. I'm thinking I seeded it too thickly? Lol. It's all one type of plant that has made a little jungle for my Russians. They seem to like it though. I will have to try again I suppose. Could it also be that I planted in winter and only some of the seeds...
Wow! What a deal! I have been trying to figure out how to make this work. Lol. I have been looking for more females and possibly another female but no way could I permanently keep all 15! Anyone want to go in on this with me? Lol
Thanks everyone. This is helpful info. I'll definitely ask about previous care anyway and let you know. We are still considering getting her, just trying to figure out how and when that would be possible.
I found this tortoise on craigslist. I'm debating getting her because I feel bad, but I'm not exactly sure how to help her or how much can really be done! Thoughts? What would you do for her?
The tortoise is in Vallejo CA which is a couple hours from me, so not really sure I want to make the...
@yvonne, so I got my seeds about a week or so after I posted last, planted 12, and had germination 7-10 days later. I planted in different locations as an experiment to see what works best, so I thought I'd share the results since we live roughly in the same area and weather is the same.
I...
