Safest heating option for AP cage?

Hi everyone, I'm getting ready to move and am going to switch up my juvenile western Hermann's tortoise's enclosure. I am toying with the idea of housing her in an Animal Plastics cage that is somewhere around 6x3x3 feet in dimensions. I tend to be pretty nervous about fire risk associated...

Two adult female redfoots (north-central Florida)... must go together

Hi everyone, I am moving to a northern climate in a few months, and am looking to adopt my two adult female redfoots into a new home so they can stay in tropical Florida. They are approximately 15 years old, and I have had them for the last 4 years. Both girls are very sweet, readily approach...

    ID plant problem (fungus?)

I have been growing the TortoiseSupply testudo seed mix for the past few months in seed trays outdoors. The growth has been very sparse and poor lately. At first I thought maybe I was just over-harvesting the plants but now a lot of the clover has this abnormal speckly white appearance on the...

My Experience with TortoiseSupply's "Testudo Seed Mix"

I recently bought a bag of TortoiseSupply's Testudo Seed Mix to grow weeds for my new Western Hermann's hatchling. I also have two adult female redfoots and eventually hope to add some of the clippings to their diet as well. Seeing as it's wintertime, I debated whether to grow the mix...

    New Western Hermann's hatchling

Many thanks to @HermanniChris for this beautiful Apulian female Thh. I currently have two redfoots and a loggerhead musk turtle; however, this is my first Mediterranean tort. Thh has long been my dream species to keep, so I am very happy right now. She is 2" SCL and 25 grams. :-) Because...

    Intsun Outdoor Hygrometer/Thermometer

I have been looking for a hygrometer/thermometer to measure levels in a heated humid hide for my Hermann's hatchling. I do not have this tortoise yet, but am trying to get everything together in advance. I love my AcuRite hygrometer/thermometer for use in my house; however, I wanted something...

Two marbled cherryhead redfoots - north central Florida

I am looking to rehome my two cherryhead redfoot tortoises. They both appear to be female so far, but have not been officially sexed. The larger girl is 7” SCL and sweet but shy. The smaller is 5.5” SCL and has amazing coloring. Both girls are developing a good amount of marbling...

    Pine cones?

I am bringing home my three adult redfoots today (yay!). Everything is ready in their outdoor enclosure, but one thing I didn't think about until now is pine cones. I can pick them out on a daily basis, but if the torts get a hold of one will they be ok?

    Adopting three redfoots soon

I visited my friends' place last weekend. They have 13 torts, all of whom are adoptions, rescues, or rehabbed wild species. They want to devote more space to their gopher torts, so they have offered to give their three redfoots to me. The male is 15 years old, 12", and an absolute sweetheart...

Interested in one Gpp South African leopard tortoise

I am looking for a single South African leopard tortoise (Geochelone pardalis pardalis). I prefer to get a hatchling or young adult but will consider any age. This tort will be kept as a pet only and not used for breeding. I am located in north-central Florida. Thank you for your time.

Marginated and redfoot tortoises in NE Florida

I found these ads on Craigslist. Both of these animals are adults and have rehoming fees. From the pictures it appears the owner keeps all of them together. http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/pet/3722165528.html http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/pet/3722156892.html Hopefully someone...

    Funniest species?

I'm interested to hear which species you all consider to be the funniest or most comical. I think redfoots are funny in a sweet sort of way, but for me box turtles really take the cake with their crazy eyes, craning necks, and in-your-face curiosity. :-)

I just can't decide: leopard or redfoot?

Hi everyone, I've posted a bit here and there on the forum. :) I am having such a hard time making a final decision on which tort species to go with! Can you all give me your insight? I live in northcentral Florida, and I have a house with a large (50x150 foot) fenced yard. I love larger...

New to forum, no tortoises yet

Hi everyone! Thought I'd introduce myself. I've been lurking on the forum for some time and really enjoy reading people's posts. I've always been into turtles and tortoises, and I have an adopted loggerhead musk turtle. I don't have any tortoises yet; however, I've been fervently researching...
