Thank you everyone. I'm glad it came out too I was worried I was in for a vet trip. And I will soak her more often and get her some cucumber. Thanks again!
Well, right after posting this I soaked her in some warm water and within minutes she was able to get it out. I don't think it's an egg based on how hard it is. Is it solid urates? How can I prevent it from happening again?
I just came home to find my female tortoise who is only 2 years old like this
Could she be trying to push out an egg? Or could it be solid urates? Some liquid has come out and she really looks like she is straining.
My little Vygo is almost 11 months old now. He hatched during the winter months (estimated that he hatched in late December or early January according to the breeder). I've always called him a him but I'm curious. I know it's too early to tell for sure. But what are you guys thinking? Here is a...
Hi everyone! Long time no see!!
I wanted to get the opinions of some of the experiences users and Russian owners.
Vygo is about 7 months now and happy as ever. His shell has just about doubled since I got him. He's at 4 inches and 94 grams.
However, I noticed parts of the outside rim of his...
Hey guys! It's been awhile since I've been on and I thought I'd share some recent pictures of my little Russian tortoise Vygo!
He's about 3 1/2 inches in length and width and weighed in at 65grams yesterday.
Just as cute as ever. Here's the proof!

So I left Sunday for a two night camping trip with friends and left my 4 month old Russian Vygo in the "capable" hands of my mother. I did not move him whatsoever and his lights were on a timer. I had a bag of weeds, prickly pear, and mustard greens for Monday and a bag with collards, weeds, and...
I knew all hypos are lighter in general but I wasn't sure if those little guys would darken up to look like your bigger ones of not. They are definitely lookers! And thanks for the info! :)[/IMG]
Little Vygo got his first taste of cactus today and he loves it!! He does require some help eating it though because it is almost to heavy for him to maneuver but he seems to really love it!
One option is to plant a mixed weed seed mix in his enclosure. It provides lots of variety and is much cheaper than replacing potted plants every time they're obliterated. Just a thought.
That's a great idea...thank you! I've got some seeds started so she'll have some fresh leafy veggies...
Vygo marching around one of his garden boxes!
Chowing down. Look at that ring of growth around his shell!
Getting some sun on the front porch.
Such a cute face!!
Maybe it's just me being a broke college student but "cheap" and "tortoise" are two words that don't go well together! :P
I agree that you could probably adopt one from a rescue or shelter for less or buy an adult from a breeder. I have never seen younger ones, especially hatchlings, less than...
