Hello Forum,
It’s been quite a while since I have been on.
Until recently Benny, my six year old leopard tortoise has been doing very well.
Last summer we built him a 24’x18’ outdoor summer enclosure which he has enjoyed for two entire summers. This year however I noticed some odd behaviour...
Trying to find a cost effective and less "cord/timer messy" solution for lighting Benny's enclosure and came across this fixture. http://www.lightyourreptiles.com/ho-t5-36-quad-fixture-w-arcadia-12-bulb-2x-daylight-bulbs-plant-pro-built-in-timer/
Any thoughts on the potential dangers/benefits?
Started a new enclosure for Benny using a puppy pen that's going to be mounted to the fence and staked to the ground. He doesn't stay out overnight, so this is only a day time pen. He enjoyed a few hours pacing it today.
We can't keep him happy inside. He's become unreasonable about his...
Has anyone got a tortoise that is always developing minor lacerations and scrapes from their shell scratching them around the ears and behind the knee?
How do you treat? Or do you treat it at all?
Suddenly this summer Benny has become super agitated and is wanting to explore and get out of...
Benny has decided to dig into one spot in his enclosure and not move. He won't come out for anything - even strawberries. He just wants to sleep all the time and not eat.
I put him in warm baths, he fights to get out, and walks right back to his burrow to sleep.
Should I be concerned...
I have read that pumpkin seeds are a natural dewormer. Is this true and are they safe for leopards?
I found a new way to deliver Benny some calcium. My friend told me in Africa he has seen wild torts (different species) eating discarded egg shells. I found that interesting. So I washed out...
Well it finally happened. Benny came into his own and solved the gender question. He's a boy and I'm forever scarred. Lol
Bath time this morning he started flashing.
Now my question. I have been concerned last couple days cause he hasn't been eating much and appears to just sulk in his burrow...
Hi all, I know I have the thread "who's enclosure is this?" And I posted the finished table there, but I need some suggestions. It's not getting warm enough now that the enclosure is so large. Need some suggestions to consider on how to get it warmer.
Benny is almost two years old. 8" long and...
Does anyone feed wheatgrass? I have a supplier that will give me a free tray of trimmed down wheat grass once a week. (I need to save on my feeding costs since my entire tort garden failed and it's been so cold this summer Benny has only been outside five times). I checked that it's ok to feed...
Benny has taken to swallowing his mazuri whole. It's scares me to death. In so concerned he will choke. I have stopped feeding it unless it's mushed. Is this unusual or am I right to be concerned?
My friend sent this to me and I nearly fell over laughing. Hope you enjoy, and if it's already been shared once, so worth sharing again!!!

I was just thinking that a permanent sticky thread of a male and a female leopard at the top of this section, with details on how to tell, might be a really handy tool for owners looking to sex their shell babies
Benny finally got outside yesterday and keeping him from roaming too far was a chore and a half, but it was so fun watching him explore and eat till I thought he would pop.
Just captured a couple images of the turtles at the zoo in Trinidad. I found it interesting that they were eating a lime that had fallen into their pond. Do turtles normally eat citrus? In Trinidad they do.
I thought I had pics of the Sulcatas they had. 7 on display if various sizes. One was a...
