A big hello from Charlie and Tootsie

Thanks!! They are about 9 inches and around 1000g. I doubt they'll grow any bigger. It still amazes me how different their personalities are!! Charlie runs away from me as he doesn't like being picked up. Tootsie comes up to me and loves a scratch under the chin!!! I will post some more...

A big hello from Charlie and Tootsie

Hi, It's been quite a while since I lasted posted pics of T & C. They are now 4 1/2 years old and 920/1050g. Both male. Pic below is just after a nice soak. Charlie has a smooth shell and loves to dig himself deep into the substrate. Tootsie is bumpy and is always sitting under the heating...

Pyramiding in Female Indian Star tortoises

I have 2 Stars and one of them is more pyramided than the other. He also had a shorter tail than the other (and came from a clutch that was breed to be female). In the last 6 months his tail had grown much longer and he turned out male. Pyramiding in Stars is complex, but I still believe it...

    Sri Lankan female

This is Tootsie my 3 1/2 yr old Sri Lankan male and last weighed in at 987g and 17cm. and this is Charlie who is also a male and is 3 1/2 yrs and 967g / 16cm. Although they were hatched by a reputable breeder here in the UK, no real way to confirm whether they are truly Sri Lankan.

    Girl??

Hi, I've been looking for a female star for a while, but want to get one as a juvenile. I know, risky business. I've just come across a 2 yr-old female (incubated to be female) and the owner seems to be genuine enough and is looking to re-home her tortoise. Just wanted to know what the experts...

    Stars and bonsai!

Thanks Dan. Agree. My daughters love the tortoises and I get them to feed the tortoises and remind me to change UV tube etc. Hoping one of them will look after them when I'm gone! (They are only 12 and 7) so hopefully a long while away! They also help me re-pot my bonsais in winter and have...

    Dreaded boy or girl question!

Hi, I know it is probably too early to tell but would like to know what everyone thinks? Tootsie on the left was incubated to be a girl and Charlie on the right to be a boy. Charlie is definitely a boy. I would be interested to hear your opinion on whether you think Tootsie could be a girl...

    Stars and bonsai!

I got my tortoises from a local breeder Marcus Langford here in the UK. Yes that is a Gulmohar bonsai forest although my tortoises don't exact live with it. The pot sits on top of their indoor vivarium! My little torts can be very destructive and so unlikely that a bonsai would survive in the...

    Stars and bonsai!

Dear all, This is my first post in a while from 'sunny' England! Just wanted to share pictures of Tootsie and Charlie our Indian Stars. Both are about 31/2 years old and absolute cuties. When we got them in October 2012, I started a Delonix Regia ('flame of the forest') bonsai forest from...

    help needed star tortoise

I live in the UK but I am originally from India. The best place to start would be to ask at a local zoo. Also, if there are vets in your vicinity, they may be able to put you in touch with local animal rescue centres and NGOs. By not keeping wild caught star tortoises as pets, you are helping...

    The End Of Pyramiding

I can't believe how smooth their shells are. Truly the "end of pyramiding". Wish there was such conclusive evidence for star torts...

    My first radiated....!!

Gorgeous baby tortoise!! How did you come by a radiated tortoise in the UK? Is there someone here that breeds them? How is Sheldon doing? You must post pics of the 2 of them!

    Sri Lankan Star Substrate

I've used coco coir for quite some time now. I don't mix it with dirt. Maintain humidity above 80% at all times. I spot clean the enclosure every day. I also soak my stars for 15 minutes in water. They normally defecate in the water and so the substrate remains relatively clean. I previously had...

    Hello Everyone

Hi! I'm in Cambridge, UK. I have a couple of stars! Tons of information on here and loads of very helpful (and very experienced) tortoise keepers / experts. I've learnt everything I know from here.

    Indian star tortoise humidity

Hi. I have tried out the "closed chamber, high humidity" method on my stars. Got them when they were 3 months old and are now just over a year old. Before I read Tom's post, I had them in an open chamber environment and could never keep the humidity above 40%. They wouldn't use their humid hides...
