I'm still kinda new to this too, but from what I read, the only reason a glass terrarium is bad for Torts is because the see through glass confuses them..so you could just cover the first 5 inches and I think it should be fine.
Otherwise, you can do what I did, which is build a multi tier...
From what I learned, it doesnt hinder health or longevity, just it's appearance. Yes, they should be cheaper because of it, and the ones I have seen with "irregular scutes" are usually sold for less.
Btw, you could also do what I did (seeing as I was space challenged, but not vertically challenged) is build a multi tier unit. Just don't make it too steep, pad the walkway with something that they wont slip, and that their nails wont get caught in, and lastly, make rails so that they don't...
Hi,
I have had a hatchling Hermanns for about 2 weeks now. He is eating well, and pooping every day when he soaks. The enclosure temp is 95 and humidity (with a spray of water every few hours) is at around 60.
My problem is, he doesn't seem to be too active during the day...he mostly hides...
After yesterday's sad CL listing, I actually found a nice one..and this one is free too!
If you want a slider, with everything included, this one is free, and looks like it comes from a caring owner: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pet/3558294956.html
I just got a Hermann's baby too...
I tried to put one hidebox and another piece of log, but he didn't like either..he just burrows under the substrate. I also heard from the breeder I got him from that they like moist hides. so spray the hide every so often (also good for humidity)
I also...
